Is it a sin or sinful to smoke marijuana?

Until you can say Jesus offered MJ then I don’t see your argument valid either.

The immaculate conception is, however, infallibly taught by the Church. Marijuana, on the other hand, is generally condemned by the Magisterium, as people have repeatedly demonstrated in this thread.

The point was in this example about the Immaculate Conception … that everything is not in the Bible.

Second, it is NOT what the Magisterium teaches on the use of “marijuana”. It is your interpretation of what the Church teaches - not my understanding.

How about you ask your bishop? John Paul II wrote on the topic of drug use in a resource that I don’t personally have, but I’m sure your bishop would answer your question. And I’m fairly certain what his answer will be.

You clearly are uninterested in finding the truth of this matter, which is probably why people seem to find that debating with you is like talking to a brick wall. If you are unclear on something the Magisterium teaches, you should take it to your bishop. This isn’t a matter of “personal interpretation,” you are Catholic.

It’s completely irrelevant to me because I’m not interested in smoking marijuana regardless of whether or not the Church finds it morally permissible.

Now you have for once actually said something that is true - I am not here seeking answers - but making people think and not just regurgitate what they “think” the CCC says.

Well, that’s fantastic. So you don’t care what the Church actually teaches, you just want to “think” circles around what is pretty much evident from the lives of the saints and the writings of the popes, and which the Church’s hierarchy would tell you directly if you were to ask.

Now I’m wondering why I even bothered.

No, I know what the Church teaches. But what I think the Church teaches and what you think it does, are not the same.

Which is why I suggested that you take it up with your bishop, to which your rather rude reply indicated that you were wholly uninterested in finding out what the Church actually teaches.

Then there was a misunderstanding … I apologize. Can the Bishop tell me more than what is already in the CCC?

The bishop is an authority and is capable of clearing up any misconceptions regarding the CCC. He also probably has access to John Paul II’s extensive writing on the topic of drug use, which I do not. In short, he is both an authority and a resource.

EDIT- Let me put it this way - if it were my soul, I would trust a bishop’s understanding of the Church’s teaching over my own.

Then why did you not say so in the first place. Why did you ask if it is a sin or not. We showed you what our Church teaches. Everyone here in good faith. I think if anyone thought you were not seeking answers they would not have gone to all of the trouble of looking for Church teachings. etc. I know I would not of for sure. I for one did not come on to argue with you. I could care less what you think. No offense but what you think means nothing to me. What my CHurch thinks is important to me. and I am sure to others. We care about what God thinks. Im outta here.
