Is it a sin to ask for money that I lent back?

I lent some money to a coworker in need, no questions asked I lent it to him because it was an emergency for him and he really needed it.

However, I need the money myself. Doesn’t it say in the Bible that I shouldn’t ask for lent money back?

Any suggestions of how I can recover my money without directly asking him?

I’ve always asked money back, I didn’t know it would be a problem or not.

If it’s a lot, or the person is not wealthy, I ask them to return me slowly ($2 every week, etc), and they usually do

Why would it be a sin?

As for getting it back, I don’t think there’s any way you can ask but directly. If you need it, you need it. Tell him that. There’s nothing wrong or rude with being direct, as long as you are polite.

You may just try to bring up a conversation in which you state that you are really in need of some money … if you don’t want to be totally direct about it. However, I have usually found in life, that a direct approach is best. I would probably say something like “I don’t know what kind of situation you are in right now, but if it is at all possible, is there any way you could repay some of the loan that I gave you.”

Why would it be a sin? If the money was a loan you have the expectation and he has the obligation to give it back.

It is okay to ask for it back. It’s not okay to hold it against him if he doesn’t give it back.

Sometimes you just have to…I had a boss who wasn’t paying me and I had to take her to court. I hated doing it, but she owed me several months of back pay which she would not give me. She had every excuse in the book for delaying payment.

It was a loan not a gift and therefore the money is yours so ask for your money back in your need…

I believe that this is the best answer you received. Forgive the debt if the co-worker can’t or simply won’t repay it, but it’s alright to ask.
