Have you tried Praying the Rosary? Not saying the Rosary but Praying the Rosary! If you are from up north and you moved to the south, you have an accent, they don’t.May I suggest that you grow where you’re planted.Be an example of the truth of the Catholic Church.I have been all over the USA and there is beauty everywhere even though customs, etc.are differant. The community where I live had never met a Catholic. There are 3 of us(Me,my wife and my 1yo.grandson that we have custody of)now.I don’t know what answers you are looking for but love the people where you are, share your faith and pray.Praying for you,Rocky.

No, no, no! That is relativism which we must oppose wherever we find it. What next, regional spelling & grammar?
I speak standard American English (except for some regionalisms peculiar to upstate NY that I’m working on). Almost all Southerners have a non-standard accent.
That remains true whether I’m down south or the Southerner is up here.
There are few things more disconcerting than being told by some son of dixie, “Yew sher dew tawk funny.”

My honest advice is that you stop asking these kinds of questions on a public board and find yourself a spiritual director or a confessor–preferably someone who lives a holy life and has a strong understanding of human psychology–someone to whom you refer regularly–and with whom you can discuss the building blocks of a healthy spirituality…As a starter, I would show him this post and see what he says…

Calm…

Maybe you haven’t gotton around much, but while, YES, we do have American Standard Language/accent/etc; YET, yes, we ALSO have REGIONAL ACCENTS. Yes, yes YES. It’s a world-wide trend. If you move to a place you should not expect the locals to comform to your world-view. This is what leads to muslims/athiests suing to end Christmas parades. It’s sick to be so militant.

Thank you for pointing out that not all relativism is bad.

In my experience, if the accent bugs you, then everything about every aspect of life is starting in the hole. You should either embrace the accent or move (love it or leave it). If you truly are stuck there for a bit; try faking the accent. It may feel phony to you, but it will help your ear adjust and will show the locals you don’t hold them in such contempt.

May God help you.

I really shouldn’t be replying, I’m not religious…but…just wondering…you say you have racing thoughts? so much so you can’t concentrate generally?
Perhaps you need to see a doctor? Just wondering.
What does your parents think/say?

What is coming to my mind when I read your post is that you are terribly anxious, or no?

I am from the north, but I lived in Kentucky for 11 years when I was in the service. I think…I think I understand where you are coming from with the accent, but what puzzles me-you are born and raised in the south? chances are you have a southern accent, too;0)

When I was growing up, I hated my harsh South Philadelphia accent, and tried to tone it down…did to a certain extent, but when I was annoyed, angry, or otherwise excited, the Souphilly accent came out.
Now I have a Philadelphia accent mixed with some southern pronunciations. I sound a mess…

Embrace your accent. It’s part of who you are;0)

As to people accepting biracial dating…well, it’s no better up north…it’s just hidden. There are groups of people who accept it as a matter of course-especially young people, but…it’s still frowned upon-as I said, up north, it’s underhanded, but in some sense, racism is alive and well. Trust.

Know where I noticed it’s accepted most? The military. If you live near a military instillation, the military community would be very accepting…and you will hear ALL kinds of accents;0)
It’s very commonplace to have mixed race dating/marriage in the military, was in my company, anyhow.
And.
There are a LOT of military instillations in the South.
So.
Food for thought for when you are older;0)

Regarding tempting thoughts…

(from previous posts)

Regarding thoughts

while Jesus makes it clear that one can sin in ones thoughts…just cause some lustful thought happens (or other bad thought) does not mean that one sinned…

(and one can have a sufficiently good reason to think about sexual matters…for instance studying moral theology…but care must be taken to avoid things that would be a problem…but that is another question)

What should we do with* unwanted* sexual thoughts? Those pesky temptations that can come …even though we are not seeking them etc…

(there are of course some things we should avoid that cause them…and there can be sin if it is something one should reasonably avoid…but often they come uninvited)

First…Relax. Do not worry.

Now are they mortal sins?

For a mortal sin one needs a grave matter …full knowledge AND deliberate consent!!!

A. If you do not want the thought…if the thought displeases you: it can be a sign actually that you did not give consent or do not give full consent.

B. Even if you felt a temptation for the thought – and were drawn to it —but rejected it and maybe even turned to God : again a sign not full consent.

C. But what if one has a tempting thought --say of a sexual nature and even hesitated for a moment…but then rejected it for one did not want to sin? : it can be partial consent perhaps (and thus a venial sin)-- or it may be no sin at all but rather a strong temptation that drew you but then you saw what was happening and turned away.

D. A temptation can even be very strong or the thoughts very often – but this does NOT mean one has consented! so worry not…even it they go on for a long time…

remember --for it to be mortal there must be that deliberate consent!

What to do? on the spiritual side–relax first of all and remember the above.

Next – know that the more one fears the thoughts the more likely they are to come… or said another way --the more a person seeks to avoid the thoughts the more likely he will have a problem with them. (but do not worry about this either!)

for example: for the next 10 seconds try NOT to think of an apple.

tick tock …

tick tock…

Ok what did you think of? Most likely an apple.

So it is best to ignore them and just not consent and then turn your attention to some other good thing…for instance whatever you are doing. Simply do not consent and move on. and do not worry

another point – thoughts can just happen --they are the stuff with which we think…it is up to us to consent and take them further or not. and just because they are REAL VIVID and almost “think themselves” does not mean per se that one has given ANY consent.

they can be annoying…but need cause no actual harm …

If staying in the South drives you crazy then move to some place else. It is better to move to some other neighborhood than to get angry all the time. It is not a sin to dislike your area and moving to another place isn’t a sin but getting angry all the time is unhealthy in my opinion.
