Is it a sin to doubt you have been forgiven after confession

Although this is not the case with me (even with my worst confession experience), I have heard some say that they doubt that they have been forgiven after going to confession.

To me, that seems to be doubting God and would be a sin.

The sinfulness of such a doubt would be dependent upon the degree to which it was willful.

For the scrupulous, it is usually not willed - it’s something they cannot control, almost like OCD.

For those who are not truly sorry for their sins, it might be appropriate to doubt. I do not refer here to imperfect contrition, or attrition, but to no real contrition at all, with no purpose of amendment.

For those who have encountered a grumpy priest, a doubt might be the result of an emotional reaction or a lack of proper formation regarding the Sacrament.

I guess there are people out there who habitually do things to make themselves miserable, and perhaps they would fall into the category of willful doubters.

What are you envisioning with your question?

I like the analogy that I read one time long ago, but I can’t say who specifically was the author…

When you confess your sins and you receive absolution, it is similar to God taking your sins and throwing them out into the furthest reaches of the ocean and then posting a sign…No Fishing!

Just wonder because of some comments I have heard from people having doubts. As I stated, it is not me that this is about, I just want to see what other people opinion about this are.
