Is it a sin to eat meat on Christmas eve ?

Hi I was talking to a Polish friend. He said it is tradition for Catholics to refrain from meat on Christmas Eve. However I have not heard this before is it a sin to eat meat on Christmas Eve I am based in England UK.
 
Hi,

There was a time when the vigil of Christmas was a time of abstinence from red meat. This has no longer been the case for many years.
