I have noticed a lot of young people with tattoos lately, as well as a lot of older men who have served time in wars. I too have a couple tattoos, and am a recent convert, and have been reading and learning more and more than I ever knew before.

The Old Testament law commanded the Israelites, “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.” (Leviticus 19:28). So, even though believers today are not under the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15), the fact that there was a command against marks, or what we now call tattoos, should cause us to question. The New Testament does not say anything about whether a believer should or should not get a tattoo.

My grandfather was a Baptist Deacon and has tattoos from WWII. I know many people who are disgusted by tattoos, but I want to know, what is the church’s take on tattoos? What does God say about tattoos in the New Testament?

Thanks!!!
Chris.
