I wanted to get a tattoo of a crucifix. Would that be a sin and if so why? I’ve heard that the body is a temple of God and I’ve seen some scripture to support this idea, however it is in reference to pagan symbols, mystic/esoteric protection, and in reference to the dead. I haven’t seen anything against the practice specifically as a practice or to be used to honor God.

From what I’ve read, a tattoo is alright so long as it is not wicked looking (a spider or snake, for example) and representing something evil. A crucifix, not those Gothic crosses, should be o.k., in my opinion. Having many tattos on one’s body, however, is prohibited by the Church.

I would think so , seeing as it is a marking on ones body that God’s considers a temple. I have seen lot of tatoos and some of them look tasteful and some of them do not. I just dont think we should cover up what God gave us, because we are not happy with ourselves. Although it is ones choice whether they get one or do not get one.

No, it’s not, but excessive tattooing is (and sinful images/words, obviously). St. Jane de Chantel (I believe this is the one) took a red hot iron and wrote “Jesus” over her heart.
