Is it a sin to have doubts?

I was telling someone that I often have doubts about my faith, but that I just keep plugging away and trying to be the best Catholic I can be.

She told me that it was a mortal sin to have doubts and that I needed to stop doing that.

I was under the impression that you can’t sin involuntarily and that none of us really have any control over things like doubts, other than how we react to them or try to deal with them.

What is the Church’s teaching on doubts?
