Anyone know if this is a sin or not? Interested in finding out.

No, I would not consider it sinful. Managing animal populations – by spaying/neutering to make sure that animals will have home/food/etc. and not have shelters overrun – is a good thing to do IMHO.

No, sterilizing livestock and pets is not sinful in the least. It’s part of good husbandry- allowing only the best to pass on their genes, managing the populations, and in many cases, preserving animal health.

Is it wrong to perform an ovariohysterectomy on a pregnant animal? No, but as a prevet student I find it uncomfortable. I believe in the preservation of life and it’s wrong to take the lives of animals for no good reason. So I think one should consider carefully whether it is necessary or not before they decide to have a pregnant animal spayed, and as a vet I would probably refuse to do so except in the most extreme circumstances (and especially not during the latter part of gestation).

My mom once asked a priest that question. The answer she received was that animals are animals, and are not held to human standards.

Right. That’s why it is perfectly okay to sterilize them, utilize artificial insemination and embryo transfer in breeding them, use them for food, keep them as pets, etc.

We have an obligation to treat them with kindness and use them wisely, as they are God’s creatures and great gifts to us.

Um, no?
I’ve never heard that it was, and I don’t know why it would be…?
