Is it a sin to not stop someone else from sinning?

If someone were sinning, and you were not involved with it at all, but you do nothing to stop them, are you sinning? Or if you fail to “instruct the ignorant” when you have the chance, is this a sin?

There is sin by omission. If you have a reasonable way to stop them from sinning it’s encouraged to at least try.

If you are watching a sin take place and you feel your conscience tugging at you to do something and you ingore it, that could be sinful.

It’s more about doing the right thing really.

It’s sort of a broad question. It depends on the situation and on a lot of things, really. For instance, it may even depend on whether you can stop the person from sinning without sinning yourself. Additionally, sometimes the things we say and/or do to get someone to stop doing something can cause them to harden their hearts and do it even more, becoming set in their ways. But it’s never wrong to set a good example with your own actions. If you give us some more details about a specific situation, maybe it would be easier to give a better reply. God bless.
