Would saying “Oh my God” be taking the Lord’s name in vain? What are your thoughts?
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven, and the pains of hell; but most of all because
they offend Thee, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.
No!Would saying “Oh my God” be taking the Lord’s name in vain? What are your thoughts?
Agree!I have a relative that says “oh my G-d” all the time, it drives me insane.
I’ve taught my children to not say that phrase, ever. if they see something amazing, say “wow” that is sufficient.
I really like your practice! I would like to share my extended opinion on my interpretation of the concept.I want to modify my statement. As a general rule, we don’t say “oh my G-d” unless it is in prayer. If you’re saying “oh my G-d” at something amazing, then one might start saying it for other reasons. Better to be safe than sorry.
I’m in no way condemnng anyone or saying that anyone is wrong. This is just what we do in our home.
Not in my book, although profane insertions therein are inappropriate.Would saying “Oh my God” be taking the Lord’s name in vain? What are your thoughts?
