Is it a sin to read anti-Catholic material with no intention of taking it seriously?

I would say it depends heavily on intention. If there is no intent to take it seriously, then near-occasion of sin is unlikely, but still possible. I find myself reading anti-Catholic material in order to find out what the arguments against my faith are so that I can temper my faith to be stronger against and in the face of such things. Then there are the anti-Catholic materials that are just laughable. I, for a while, read Jack Chic cartoons because it amused me how wrong they got so many things (it also saddens me deeply that people can actually believe that ****, though). I would say tread with caution and gird yourself with a strong faith if you wade into such matters.

I agree. I would not recommend reading material like that unless you are very knowledgeable in the Catholic faith. They can present very good arguments that can sway a person that is weak about some aspects of the Church away from their faith. Tread carefully.

If it was, that would be an extremely obvious sign that your faith was wrong.
Education is a great thing. It frightens me that some people never even try to learn about the world.
You would fault other religions for not being catholic, saying that they could always just read about it and then convert, yet you are wondering if it is evil to read about other beliefs?

There is nothing wrong with seeking the truth and you should not be afraid of information. If your faith is correct you have nothing to fear in learning more. Sheeeesh.
