But then again, how is saying “bananas!” or “manure occureth” or “shoot!” really any different from employing the “s” word as an ejaculation?

I confess that I cussed and the priests have never said it was or wasn’t a sin.I do not think it is a sin in itself. It is not blasphemy, so the word is morally neutral. Society assigns value to it. It may be a sin if you were using it to hurt someone though.
Have been waiting for someone to say this!! Balderdash and bunkum! To utter some kind of exclamation when eg you hit your thumb with a hammer, or your car boot vomits shopping all over a wet car park is NORMAl and HEALTHY,If you think that you should and that it is the right thing to do, then yes, confess it.
As I said before, vulgarity in itself is not sinful but it also isn’t the most noble thing to do. But then again, how is saying “bananas!” or “manure occureth” or “shoot!” really any different from employing the “s” word as an ejaculation? As in many things, it isn’t the word that makes it wrong but the intention behind it.
I believe that vulgar words (and its ever present companion, vulgar thoughts) are the windows that let in all of the other vices. I try not to use them but as is so often in this world, I fail. I still do not, however, believe that the employment of such terms is an occurrence of sin.
Utter nonsense. The issue and “sin” here if there be any is vulgarity and in many case sexual innuendo, the f word being of prime useage here in Ireland…
May sound irreverent but as Jesus trained as a carpenter having Joseph to teach Him He must have accidenatlly bashed his thumb occasionally…What words are considered vulgar, vary according to culture.
Bloody, is vulgarity across the pond, but nothing here.
Jesus warning about idle words is about words that cause harm, despite the person carelessness in using them.
He’s not talking about the S word when a person accidentally smashes his finger with a hammer when banging in a nail.

How do you know that the devil cusses using normal foul language? You presented a fascist view on foul language. I once read a story about Pope John XXIII and how he once used the s-word. He is a saint. You seem to be implying that the Bill of Rights can go to hell.Any foul language is a sin. Its impossible to imagine a Saint saying such words. In Heaven this type of language would not exist… But in hell it would. Why make yourself sound like a devil?
