Is it a sin to steal food when you are really hungry and have not food?

I may be completely wrong about this, as I still have a great deal to learn, but I imagine it would be.

In that case, your brother is asking you for something in his hour of need that you have more than enough of, and you are unwilling to give it to him. That is completely contrary to the idea of charity.

At least that would be my understanding of it.

I agree that in the case you mentioned, it certainly would be the charitable thing to do. However, what happens when a homeless person, or a non-profit, or the government asks you for your money? Do you give them everything aside from your daily necessities? Or in other words, would it be a sin not to take a vow of poverty?

I honestly don’t know what the Church teaches on that.

There is an interesting article about poverty on New Advent, however: newadvent.org/cathen/12324a.htm

It appears that the only people who take a vow of poverty are some religious orders and extremely devoted lay people. So, no, I would not say that that was a sin. Giving to charities all that you have (except for the bare minimum) is a completely different thing than helping out someone who is directly asking you for insert item here that they have need of and you have a surplus of.

Ok! guys like the title says, is it a sin to steal food when you have no food to eat and you are completely broke and the only option you have is to die of hunger?

I would say no. If circumstances are that desperate, I cannot see the sin. Providing that this were the only option – really. Obviously, there are food pantries in many Churches and volunteer organizations that work on a schedule, depending on where you are.

But, let’s assume there really is no place at the time, and there’s only one place open to get food, and you have no other coice.
