More specifically those that exist naturally in nature, not the ones created by man through chemical processes.
2290 The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others’ safety on the road, at sea, or in the air.
If the code of the words *those that exist naturally in nature *is to be believed, NB the moral imperative to obey the just laws of the legitimate government.2291 The use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life. Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense. Clandestine production of and trafficking in drugs are scandalous practices. They constitute direct co-operation in evil, since they encourage people to practices gravely contrary to the moral law.
In other words you are asking about taking drugs for recreational purposes!More specifically those that exist naturally in nature, not the ones created by man through chemical processes.
It is not a sin. God created these things and said they were good (see gen chap 1). not to mention Jesus said himself that which goes into is not bad but what comes out of the heart murder theft ect. No one could argue that a drug is something that when put in the body causes a change in the way reality is precived. In that case every thing is a drug. Food will change the way you precive reality by givng one more energy, reading this post which is passing through your eyes into yourself is causing a change in the way you view reality even the air we breath will cause a change in that there are brething exercises that can put one into trances. God gave us the plants for our use but not abuse. that is the real issue. Heroin to use an extrem example is the worlds most powerfull pain killer and is a good if you are in major pain but it is also addictive and must be used in its proper use i.e. in a hospital. Pot on the other hand is not bad but has many positve effects not just in a medical sense but also recreational way as well i.e. social lubracant. The harm pot does to socity is not a result of pot or its use but the laws against it which are immoral and cause violence and oppresion. The laws were made to oppress mexican immigrants and keep mexico full of violence so that the us government can rape the land and exploit its people. Join the fight against tyranny on april 20 international pot smoking day. I don’t know where you are but here in canada we gather on the front lawn of our legislative building at 4:20 pm and smoke up in protest against these unjust and down right evil laws.
And to all those who think pot is so bad let me ask you this: when was the last time you heard of hippies doing bong rips and beating their wife and kids or starting bar fights? Pot is harmless and if we could get all the world leaders in one room and get them high we could have world peace.
God created plants which are in fact POISONOUS and deadly to us - containing cyanide, strychnine and whatnot. I suppose we are meant to ingest those too, after all they ARE natural and God said everything He created is good!It is not a sin. Cannabis, though, is not one of those plants that is poisonous and deadly to us. In fact, the toxicity is much lower then many things we consume normally.God created plants which are in fact POISONOUS and deadly to us - containing cyanide, strychnine and whatnot. I suppose we are meant to ingest those too, after all they ARE natural and God said everything He created is good!
And who’s to say that cannabis does not have a recreational purpose? Alcohol and tobacco certainly have one. Couldn’t the same be true for a drug that is significantly safer than either of those? All things are good when used for the purpose for which they are intended. Clearly, with many plants, that purpose is not as food, medication or recreation for humans. Hemp, we know, has many other uses - clothing, rope and whatnot. Who says that God didn’t intend it for those purposes only, and not for the purpose of being ingested by us?
I agree with this and I think the recreational use of opioids can attest to this. That being said, alcohol, until only recently in human history, has had both a medical and recreational purpose. Now, with the advent of modern medicine, its purpose is purely recreational, but couldn’t it be possible that marijuana could have that duel purpose?Used in a hospital? You might have a point, for controlled medical use of marijuana. On the other hand, being OK in a hospital setting doesn’t mean squat in terms of being OK for recreational use.
I wouldn’t doubt that this happens and I have personally seen people who are high have episodes(typically paranoia), which generally end by telling them to calm down. It’s not a common occurrence, though, and making something illegal or immoral because some people react negatively is a bit ridiculous. We shouldn’t make peanut butter illegal because some people are allergic or react negatively. The same is true for cannabis. As for pot being harmless - no. My sister worked for years in emergency medicine in a hospital, and could tell stories about cannabis users being brought in suffering psychotic episodes which were either triggered or exacerbated by their use of pot. There was news here in Australia just last week of an important medical study which confirmed that this DOES happen to cannabis users.
If a person is worried about smoking cannabis, than they can use alternative delivery methods, such as eating it or using a vaporizer. Not to mention if one is smoking it it has most if not all of the same health effects as smoking tobacco.
Agree. We can’t solve our problems through drug use and unfortunately many people try to with alcohol and cannabis. This has no impact on the morality of either drugs, though.World peace through temporarily being high? Nope - because the high wears off and things go right back to square one when it does.
The Opium War occurred because of British exploitation of the Chinese, and is completely unrelated to cannabis. If cannabis was legalized, it wouldn’t start any wars. It would probably just be heavily regulated and have some sort of sin tax, like tobacco or alcohol. You know wars have been started over drugs? Read up about the Opium Wars between Britain and China. They occurred BECAUSE opium was not only legal at the time but also highly lucrative. So why not wars over cannabis? If it is legalised it will certainly become an important money-earner, and that will be enough incentive for people to fight over it as they do over oil and other natural resources.
Yes it is possible to use pot in moderation and without destroying one’s sense of reason, reality, and human life. Shrooms is different matter. I’ve done a ton of reading research on shrooms and have found that although one could not become addicted to them they take away our sense of reason and reality. There are many type of shrooms out there and it’s easy for a selling source to confuse them, so it’s like playing Russian roulette. Still even if you get the right one, lingering health effects are possible down the road. So I wouldn’t mess with them.It is a sin to be drunk, intoxicated, etc. So, in theory, if one can smoke a tiny amount of pot (that is what code word for “those in nature” almost always means) moderation in all things - alcohol, magic mushrooms, pot, etc. * Is that POSSIBLE with pot or mushrooms*???
