Is it a sin to walk in the dark?

Is it a sin for a girl or woman to walk on the street when it is dark outside, if the neighborhood is quite safe?
 
I am asking because prudence is a virtue and one must protect its own life.

Yes one must use prudence.

(part of prudence can be -seeking advice- and in this case perhaps from a Priest etc who knows the area you are in).

Yes, prudence is a virtue. Only you can answer whether or not you are being prudent in any particular circumstance. Neither walking, walking at night, nor walking alone are inherently imprudent. In some circumstances it may not be prudent, in others it may be prudent.

However, that prudence is a virtue does not answer my question. What sin do you suppose you would be committing? Which commandment would you be breaking?
 
Good question. I can not think of any commandment I break by walking outside late at night…
 
Statistically speaking, it’s pretty dangerous to ride in a car.

I think you have to weigh the practical elements against the risk elements. What’s the incidence of crime in the area you are walking? What preventative measures can you take? Are there any better alternatives? Etc.

It’s definitely not a sin for a girl or a woman to walk on the street when its dark outside (or when it is light outside). Don’t worry about that sin, and just focus on your safety and comfort:D

In terms of your own comfort and safety, make intelligent decisions taking into account your comfort and safety. If you feel it is safe to walk alone, do so. If you feel comfortable walking alone but only if you are chatting with someone on the phone (so someone will know instantly if you encounter trouble), do so. If you feel safe only if you are walking with a group of friends, do so. These are important considerations, and only you will know the specifics of your area and how you feel going out by yourself after dark, and so only you can make the decisions about what you want to do under what circumstances.
