Kiss your dog?

I feel really bad at the moment. I think I committed really bad mortal sin.

I love my dog very much, I play with it, kiss it, pat it, hug it, wrestle it, and I sleep with it. It sleeps in my bed under the sheet with me because shes like a teddy bear to me. I kiss her alot. Is this normal? Is this mortal sin? I feel compelled to confess it tommorow but I don’t know what to confess…

I don’t think it is a sin at all to kiss your pet and certainly not a mortal sin. I’m not sure why you think it would be?

O_O As long as your not making out with it or tongue kissing it, no! :nope: Why would kissing your dog be a sin?

Realize that most dogs spend a good portion of their day trying to get both their ends to smell the same…

That said, I don’t see why it would be a sin.

Just remember, it’s okay to love your pet, just don’t LOOOVVEE your pet. 😃

To the OP, if this issue is truly unsettling you, feel free to bring it up to the priest so that he can put your mind at ease.

Catechism:

Respect for the integrity of creation

2415 The seventh commandment enjoins respect for the integrity of creation. Animals, like plants and inanimate beings, are by nature destined for the common good of past, present, and future humanity.194 Use of the mineral, vegetable, and animal resources of the universe cannot be divorced from respect for moral imperatives. Man’s dominion over inanimate and other living beings granted by the Creator is not absolute; it is limited by concern for the quality of life of his neighbor, including generations to come; it requires a religious respect for the integrity of creation.195

2416 Animals are God’s creatures. He surrounds them with his providential care. By their mere existence they bless him and give him glory.196 Thus men owe them kindness. We should recall the gentleness with which saints like St. Francis of Assisi or St. Philip Neri treated animals.

2417 God entrusted animals to the stewardship of those whom he created in his own image.197 Hence it is legitimate to use animals for food and clothing. They may be domesticated to help man in his work and leisure. Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is a morally acceptable practice, if it remains within reasonable limits and contributes to caring for or saving human lives.

2418 It is contrary to human dignity to cause animals to suffer or die needlessly. It is likewise unworthy to spend money on them that should as a priority go to the relief of human misery. One can love animals; one should not direct to them the affection due only to persons.

So we can love our pets …as pets.

Is it ok to play with your dog? sure…that is their “dog nature” …Is it ok to kiss your dog? …sure within reason. I just kissed my boxer the other day…sort of a natural thing …we love our dog as a dog…(and I am a guy to boot!).

But I know the difference between my two year old son and my boxer 🙂 (and my son is very glad too…for I do not think he would like the taste of dog food…)

:hmmm:
I don’t know why one would think it’s a mortal sin unless you either have scrupulosity (religious OCD) or there is something you aren’t telling us. I presume it is the former.

I think that maybe you are feeling too close to your dog. This feeling is probably something you should listen to. If it unsettles you, it’s probably for a reason. Remember, God cares how we feel inside, not just whether or not what we’re doing violates the law. So I’d say, like someone said before me, confessing this is probably a good idea.

May God be with you.
Amen.

It’s only a sin if you force the dog against it’s will 😃 it’s not a mortal sin, but it’s something I find disgusting, those pets lick everywhere if you get the point…YUK !

As long as your dog doesn’t have bad breath like the neighbour’s dog across the street 😃

Ok, I went with your guys advice that it wasn’t a sin, so I didn’t mention it in confession. I hope I did the right thing, my consiounce was killing me!
