Is it a sin when you hurt someone's feelings?

I hurt a friend’s feelings, completely unintentionally, and he has terminated the friendship. I am ashamed by the pain I caused. I have begged forgiveness but the pain I caused does not allow him to forgive me. How do I make amends when my friend cannot forgive me?
 
Without knowing what you did, I cannot judge its gravity or speculate as to why your former friend won’t forgive you. I can only say that if you have done your best to make amends and to ask for forgiveness, then you have done all you can do and should try to find peace about the matter. It is your former friend who must take responsibility for his decision not to forgive you. We must hope that he will one day understand the seriousness of refusing to forgive someone who has sincerely repented having wronged him (cf. Matt. 7:2, 18:23-35).
