Is it considered a sin not to pray the rosary in the Catholic faith?
 
St Ignatius of Loyola wrote:

The main thing that matters is that you do try to pray each day for a few minutes if you can, and it’s not a sin to not pray,

But St Padre said:
“Those who pray often are safe,
Those who pray sometimes are in danger,
Those who do not pray at all, are lost.”

Prayer keeps you close to God, gives the gift of Faith, opens you to the Holy Spirit and give life to a person’s conscience.

There are many ways to have devotion to our Blessed Mother.

Our Lord Jesus Christ gave her to us at the foot of the Cross. She intercedes for us.

I was taught it is a sin not to pray, though specific prayers like the Rosary are not required.

Nope. You can be a Catholic in good standing with the Church every day of your life and never pray one single Hail Mary or rosary (but why would you want to?)

WHY the daily rosary?

Our Lady has 117 titles. She selected this title at Fatima:
“I am the Lady of the Rosary”.

St. Francis de Sales said the greatest method of praying
IS - Pray the Rosary.

St. Thomas Aquinas preached 40 straight days in Rome,
Italy on just the Hail Mary.

St. John Vianney, patron of priests, was seldom seen without a rosary in his hand.

“The rosary is the scourge of the devil” - Pope Adrian VI.

“The rosary is a treasure of graces” - Pope Paul V.

Padre Pio the stigmatic priest said: “The rosary is THE WEAPON”

Pope Leo XIII wrote 9 encyclicals on the rosary.

Pope John XXIII spoke 38 times about our Lady and the Rosary. He prayed 15 decades daily.

St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort wrote:

I say one decade a night of the Mysteries. I must say though, the rosary is not my favorite prayer. I rather talk to Jesus & ask & thank Him in my own words.
 
In the first volume of Jesus of Nazareth (as I recall) Pope Benedict XVI says that we have a right and duty to pray for our needs and intentions.

This thought is from a non-Catholic author, but notice that in the Lord’s prayer, the first three things we say are like pledges, promises, or praises of God the Father?

Only after we say

HALLOWED BE THY NAME

THY KINGDOM COME

THY WILL BE DONE…

do we have the confidence to say

GIVE US…

and,

it is a common introduction to the Preface prayer at Mass that the priest prays

“Lord it is right that we should always and everywhere give you thanks and praise”

In another non-Catholic book on Christian prayer, the author suggested that if we don’t pray in any other way, we ought to pray “THANK YOU LORD”

The last section of the Catechism of the Catholic Church is about Prayer – 60 pages of teaching on prayer. Maybe you can find some inspiration to pray in that.
 
I see people at Mass saying the rosary on their beads during the readings. Sometimes, even during the priest’s homily.
To me it looks like there is no thought to what they are saying…just get it done!

I live in that same state, and I haven’t seen rosarys being prayed during any part of the Mass in all the Catholic parishes I have attended in my area.

I have seen the rosary prayed with fervor before weekday Masses, and in other parishes the rosary is prayed after the Mass for those who wish to pray it together with other parishioners.

At my parish it is prayed after the 8:30 A.M. weekday Mass. It is done reverently.
