Is it a skin to skip class?

I’m a law student and my wife and I have an opportunity to take a special trip for a few days–which would require me to miss one class for school. I have already let the teacher know that I would be missing and there are no “docked grades” for missing, so the only thing I would be missing would be the lecture itself (and any handouts that would be given). I can do the reading on my own and I mentioned to the professor that if I had any questions I would set up an appointment to meet with him personally. The question is: am I sinning by missing that one class? I have the morning of that day off, and only the afternoon class. I absolutely hate missing class and take my academic responsibilities very seriously (obviously). But I’m also pretty scrupulous, so questions like this trip me up, and I don’t have a chance to see my confessor before the trip. I’m trying to cover any bases I’m missing by missing class, but I still don’t know if it’s a sin.

I don’t think missing one class can be counted as a sin, particularly since you informed the professor of your absence and you have a justifiable reason. Your commitment and scrupulosity will no doubt make you an honest lawyer.

No, it’s not a sin. In fact, if the trip can bring you closer to your wife, and there are no consequences for missing that one class, it might be argued that you could be sinning if you DON’T go. 😉 Just kidding, don’t get all concerned about that side of things!

Is there any classmate who can share his/her notes from the lecture? That way, you would have every base covered for the missed class.

Go, enjoy your trip and try not to fret about this! In a year, are you going to be thinking about this or worrying about one missed class? NO!

Nope, it sounds like your situation is akin to taking a “personal day” or a “vacation day” in the business world. Enjoy your day off.
 
Given the notification that you have made, it’s not a sin. And it’s not a “skin” either 😛
