Is it acceptable to use incense at home?

Hello.
I’m a bit confused. Traditionally, my family has used incense (frankinsense) at home during prayer. After reading some scriptures, I get the impression it should not be used. Is it ok? If it is what is the correct incense to be used?
 
If its cool with your mom & dad. I think the correct formula for liturgical worship is Frankincsense & Myrrh

I use it when I pray the LOTH on Sundays and Feast days. It is perfectly appropirate

I use it very often at home, it’s perfectly acceptable. What made you think it isn’t?
 
I wish they would use more incense in my parish. I think it’s used maybe twice a year?🤷
 
That’s kind of funny that you would bring that up. I was chatting with a priest on Wednesday, and he is trying to incorporate more incense. On a side note… He claims that the more smoke, the better, which I definitely agree with!:cool:

Maybe you can ask your priest to incorporate more incense. Not sure what the limitations are though.

Lately, I’ve just been going to a local Eastern Catholic Church. They use copious amounts of incense every Sunday! 🙂

As long as you know that the smoke only symbolizes our prayers rising to God and nothing more, I think it would be fine.
In our Parish it is seldom used and I wish it would be used more often, it helps with the sacredness of the Church. There are a plethora of things we no longer do during the Mass. Is that to make Non-Catholics that might be present more comfortable?

I burn incense for the same reason I like to play Gregorian chant when I pray. . When I burn incense and play music. I am involving two more senses in my prayer-hearing and smell. That way I involve 4 of senses in my prayer - seeing as I read, hearing the music, smelling incense and feeling the pages as I turn them. I have tried to convince myself that eating ice cream as I pray would help include the sense of taste in my prayer, but I’m afraid that is somewhat of a stretch.

That’s the story at most parishes here too. But at the abbey I attend every Sunday incense is used every Sunday, feast and solemnity.

Sure it is. I actually bought a small hand censor at my local parish a few weeks ago.
 
Using incense at home just makes good cense! (ducking rotten tomatoes)

The ice cream is a good one. You are creating a more religious atmosphere that apparently helps with your prayers, wonderful.

I am a member of a large parish in London and we have five Masses on Sunday plus a vigil Mass. We use incense at two of them.

Of our 1,300 Mass attenders (1,500 if the weather is good!), we have about 200 whose origins are Nigerian. Many of them use incense at home and apparently this is common practice in Nigeria. It gives us a plentiful supply of altar servers who are happy to act as thurifer.

I never heard that its use for worship at home was forbidden and I see religious goods stores selling incense and burners for home use. What makes you think that?
 
I don’t think your parents will approve of smoking marijuana - so in some instances incense can be used to cover that up.
