Is it all right for me to make up stories about God?

My son loves it when I make up bed time stories for him, and I love telling them. One of my favorite types of stories, because they’re pretty easy to make up as I go along, are stories about how God made the universe, the earth, and the creatures of the earth. He loves hearing about God bringing creation into existence, especially how God made dinosaurs and sea creatures, and how God’s love made the stars shine. These stories clearly aren’t in the Bible. They’re basically creation myths, I guess, and I’m wondering if this is all right to do.

As long as your son knows that these are made-up stories, it’s perfectly fine. Since it sounds from your report that he does know that you’re spinning tales for his entertainment, I wouldn’t worry. Later on in his religious education you can distinguish for him the difference between your imaginative “creation myths” and the Bible’s literary structure in Genesis 1 and 2.
