Or is it only in Mass? At my work place, they conduct Communion service when the priest is not available. And if I’m praying in front of a Tabernacle and someone approaches me and asks if I would like to recieve Communion, am I allowed to recieve the Lord provided that I’m in state of grace?
Thanks,
Martin

I never seen anything like what you’ve described, but it certainly is allowed in general for communion to be received outside of mass in certain circumstances.

Viatacum is one, and communion is offered to the people at Good Friday services when it is not allowed for a priest to say Mass as well.

I never even heard of people having a communion service at work, I’d suggest you make an inquiry with a priest to make sure this is copasetic.

I noticed some parishes have a communion service on Monday mornings (as opposed to mass the rest of the week), presumeably because there’s leftover Hosts from Sunday mass?? That is merely an assumption of mine.

before the Liturgical Renewal, it was very common to receive outside of Mass.

I’m sorry for the missunderstanding. What I meant was that in the chapel in the hospital where I’m working, they offer Communion service.

That’s almost undoubtably o.k.

You just said “at work” and that was sort of vague.

Well, it must be, since Mass is not celebrated ever, anywhere, on Good Friday. And Father B always consecrated a lot of extra hosts on Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday for any liturgical Protestants. Must say I like using Maundy Thursday as then every day of the Triduum has its own unique moniker)

deborah

the whole set: Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, EASTER, Easter Monday. Don’t mind me, I just like words… :whacky:

Yes as long as you have not already received Holy Communion that day.

Most likely Monday is the priest’s day off. The Communion service is in place of the Mass.

Is this rule still in place? Someone told me it had been changed but I may have been misinformed.
