Is it America's job to "run the world"?

US catholic “blue states” (sorry that term is offensive or unclear to you) never EVER fail to put pro-abortion candidates in national office
No wonder I am confused. I thought you meant blue states are those that are the majority Democrats. Well, yes, Democrat-controlled states, by definition, put Democrats in office.

I am from a red state where Catholics are the largest Christian denomination, so I do not see what you are seeing.

So, my answer is that Americans do not have the intelligence to run the world. We best leave it to our betters, which usually means that those who are resident in a nation run their own affairs.

i am curious & willing to learn and admit a mistake (if i’ve made one)

in which “red state” are catholics the largest christian denomination?

i’ll google it if you don’t care to respond

Yes, we do. As the sole super power it is our duty to ensure the oceans are kept safe for trade, that cruel and hostile regimes are sanctioned or replaced, and that people are not abused by their governments.

the USA is FAR from being “sole superpower”

russia & china have more nuclear weapons (combined) than we do

these nations have navies that are growing in strength

We are the sole super power. We are the only nation capable of projecting force on a global scale anywhere and everywhere and sustaining it logistically. Russia and China while growing, are still only regional powers. Russias Navy is a joke and the Chinese are boxed in by US allies.

i guess that is one way to look at it

both nations have ICBM’s

so there’s that

Yes but generally that’s not what is considered for making someone a global or a super power. They are a nuclear power, they are a regional power, but because they can’t project their armies outside their immediate vicinity due to logistical constraints that keeps them from being a global or super power.

The US doesn’t have the best trained regular army in the world, the one thing we really do better than anyone else is logistics. We can replace war materiel faster than enemies can destroy it, we can put boots, tanks, and bullets ippretty much anywhere. The Russians can’t even get a ship around the globe without it breaking down.

Another consideration, for Christians, is the golden rule. We should want America to act in accord as we would want other nations to act. American exceptionalism is kind of counter to Jesus in this regard.

IZZIT AMERIKA’S JOB TO RUN THE WORLD?

Who would have the authority to delegate such a responsibility to the USA or any other country? Nothing that I am aware of in Holy Scripture suggests such a thing. Therefore, I can only conclude that our country is not under any mandate from our Creator to take on the job of running the world.

No one being protected from military aggression by a U.S. military presence will agree with you. No one.
Some would argue that tossing American sons and daughters into the meat-grinder in the name of Balkan stability doesn’t justify the price.

Sometimes war IS the answer. And when one side submits the other, you actually have a peace that is more stable and lasting than the “peace” imposed by larger nations.

Yeah, that was the line that the US government fed us in order to persuade us to participate in the Vietnam war.
I did that, then I did some reading and research and found out that the USA had created that war out of nothing in its efforts to “run the world.” End result: over three million Asians dead, not to mention 58,000 of the USA’s young men and women.

Thank you, Colonel.

That being said, regarding the OP’s original post, I think there is a difference between the U.S. “running” the world and keeping it from tearing itself apart, just like there is a difference between police ruling over civilians and the same protecting them.

It isn’t America’s job to run the world. But she is. She is also running herself into the ground while doing so. Her time is coming to an end. This is unfortunate for future generations of America’s since her birthright has been squandered.
I live in Holland and I am happy the USA helped to liberate us from the nazis.
The US also handed over half of Christendom to the communists.

I was there. Your perspective is skewed.
So was I. Two years. Just being in-country does little to enhance one’s understanding of the crime that the USA perpetrated on Vietnam. Try “DERELICTION OF DUTY”, H.R. McMaster,* General, U.S.Army for a good rundown on the lies that LBJ used to get that war started in 1964.
Then there is “AMERICA’S ALBATROSS”, by Archimedes Patti, CIA, which details the USA’s betrayal of its Vietnamese ally in 1945 which led to the French Indo-China war. Patti was prohibited from publishing his Vietnam memoirs during the Vietnam war.

*That’s right, the same “McMaster” currently serving the Trump administration…

Speak softly, and carry a big stick.

We have the big stick (arguably the most powerful military in world history); we just need to work on the speaking softly part (not starting wars overseas).

Your bitterness comes through loud and clear, soldier. The Old Colonel understands.
