Is it better to attend a non-Catholic service together?

I’d like to become a confirmed Catholic (I was baptized Catholic, raised Protestant), and my children are in Catholic school (1st grade & Pre-K). However, my husband is not interested in converting and recently said he misses traditional services, and isn’t getting anything from mass.

We found a very nice Protestant church, and I’m happy my husband feels like he is getting something from church and that we are all going to church together.

I’m worried about confusing the kids and also things like communion - my husband let my daughter take it and next year she will learn about it differently at school. I thought about going to Saturday services at Catholic church myself and going to the other church Sunday mornings.

Should I simply immerse myself in the new church, and abstain from communion myself and cross that bridge with my daughter when learns about her first Catholic communion? I want to please the Lord and be a submissive wife and I’m feeling confused. I don’t want to be selfish about where we worship, but I’m more afraid to offend God.

Dear friend,

There is no reason to be confused. You’re trying to please too many people. Let the truth be your guide. Put first things first by living your Catholic faith. You are subject to God first and only secondly to you husband. Further, you have your children to consider. Immerse yourself in your Catholic faith. Forget about your husband’s church. If you are clear about your fidelity to the only Church Jesus ever founded, they have a better chance of being clear about their Catholic faith as well. If you are wishy-washy about which church to attend and who to please, your children will end up with NO faith!
