Is it considered theft?

I almost feel crazy asking this but on my way to work earlier I noticed something on somebody’s lawn that stuck out and was clearly marked as belonging to my employer… 40 miles away from work! I backed my car up, parked it, got out and picked it up without being noticed, and brought it back to work. Is stealing something back justifiable?

If your employer gave or sold it to them then you could be the one who is a thief and technically you could get in trouble with the police as stealing is a crime…what you should have done is called your employer and asked hime about it…if he didnt sell or give it to them then he would know it was stolen and he could send the police to them…

It was marked because it belongs to the company and is to stay on the grounds. Let’s just say it was a very petty theft in the first place, one I’m not even sure the police would respond to. Had the thief caught me taking it back and been mad or something I’d have likely threatened to call the police on them.

I think I’d have checked with my employer first to see what he wanted to do. He might have said “just leave it, I don’t mind”.

All the bosses could do is laugh when I walked in with it; I hardly had to explain anything as it seemed they already knew. Had I told them I saw it and just left it they’d likely figure it out of character and jokingly ask why I didn’t grab it.

I would t worry those ppl probably just borrowed the item 😉 you have done them a kindness in saving them the trouble of returning it. 😉

I am surprised by the number of people who push shopping carts home as if they are not stealing and a new cart cost $300 or more.
