Hello Friends:

I feel that Lily, La Chiara, and Jim and all of us ONLY want the best for this person who is writing in with her dilemma. Can’t we just be supportive and offer some consolation here? No need to argue friends–we are all just wanderers here in cyber-space looking for someone to vent with–and someone to listen to us–right? I know I am–and I thank each and every one of you for offering your amazing insight-

But as far as her question is it ever proper to separate/divorce?

Yes, in cases of abuse --it is proper, in my view anyway, but only as a very, very, last resort.

God Bless~~

Whew! I’m glad that i’m a nun and don’t have have to worry about these situations.

La Chiara:
Yes, his wife has a volatile temper, is out-of-control and violent (throwing things, hitting, kicking, scratching). But I know my brother and he has behavior that I suspect exacerbates the situation. He was blaming his wife. But I encouraged him to get counseling for himself, and when he was perfect and could improve no further, only then should he consider divorce. I know him well enough to suspect that he was scapegoating her as a way of not addressing some of his own behavior which fueled the situation. .
I have very much wondered about and been counseled on my part in this. Yes, I agree that it’s hardly ever one person who is to blame. I can’t necessarily rely on friends to tell me it could be me. But, I have asked in humility opinions that might lead to your point - for years. I’m to the point of thinking if it is me, it’s less than 50% me.

The Church’s position on celebate religious life comes through to me in trying to grow well my relationship with God and maintain with wife. Thanks for the differing points of view – searching for truth.

Thank you for everyone’s help. Since the civility warning was completely ignored and the thread veered off topic, it is now closed.
