I’ve always believed that if you are praying for God’s will in somebody’s life or for certain situations, then it is never wrong to pray? Is it ever wrong to pray for someone or something?

It is never wrong to ask for God’s will, if this is what your are asking for then there is nothing wrong with it.I’ve always believed that if you are praying for God’s will in somebody’s life or for certain situations, then it is never wrong to pray? Is it ever wrong to pray for someone or something?
I would say that everyone should ask for God’s will rather than for specific desires or what one would like to see happen.
Every prayer is always answered and it is always answered with God’s will.
Essentially prayer is much more than a prayer of petition or other forms of prayer. Prayer is where we grow in the likeness of Christ Jesus and are drawn to union with Him. Essentially let this be the first goal of prayer, to be united to Jesus and all other prayer such as prayers of petition will be drawn likewise into conformity with His Will so that prayer is life and life becomes prayer.

There have been a couple of instances where I received a check in my spirit, indicating not to pray for the intention. A group had gathered to ask God to heal a dying cancer patient, but I couldn’t enter the prayer with THAT intention. I learned a few days later that she had died, so I understood from the interior “check” that God was indicating her time was to pass to eternity.
My prayer, instead, could have been that God be pleased to grant what is best for that person. So to answer your question, it is not wrong to pray, but to let the Lord guide our petitions through the desires of our hearts.
I think it is so wonderful that God chooses to let men cooperate in His designs. It struck me very much during the readings last week from Exodus, when the Egyptians were pursuing the Israelities as they crossed the Red Sea. Now God could have just intervened during their panic and simply swallowed up the Egyptians, but no. He asked Moses to stretch out his arms toward the sea, thus making him a partner in God’s almighty works. Isn’t it odd how that passage of scripture never occurred to me in that way before?
Prayer seems to be like that. God wishes us to importune Him so that we can cooperate in His works and be of service to others, and also obtain blessings for ourselves. It is a beautiful mystery!

The reason I ask is because of something that occurred recently. I had been praying for God’s will in a friend’s life. I was then challenged with, “pray for me if it is God’s will”. Well, I was taken aback because I felt there was nothing wrong with the way in which I was praying and I never thought it was wrong to pray for God’s will in someone’s life. What I failed to do was ask for God’s will in my life with regard to that person. At that point God put it in my heart not to pray for that person for 10 days during which time I should fast and pray for obedience. During that 10 days God revealed to me certain attitudes which were behind the prayer; there was nothing wrong with the prayer but the attitude behind the prayer.
Lesson learned - Always ask for God’s will even when it comes to prayer.

it could never be wrong to pray as long as the prayer is addressed to God, directly or through his saints and angels, and as long as we are not issuing non-negotiable demands to God, or praying for some evil outcome. as OP suggests, if prayer is for God’s will to be accomplished, that is always good prayer (we just try not to tell God what his will should be.)I’ve always believed that if you are praying for God’s will in somebody’s life or for certain situations, then it is never wrong to pray? If we are praying for a person for whom such an act would be considered offensive (some of my relatives for instance), we just don’t need to tell anyone else about it.

It is wrong if the prayers treat God as someone who must answer them how we want them to be answered (treating God as a djinni), rather than as a child to speaking parent trusting in the love of the parent to answer them according to the divine wisdom.

I’m not certain I quite understand the question but I know it’s wrong to pray "Thank God I’m not like him. or “Thank God I’m not like that.”
I know alot of people bemoan on these boards being single, but alot of times I’ll look at about 80% of the men and think “Thank God I’m not married to him!!” Then I have to reproach myself because Jesus gives a very specific admonish in the Bible against praying like that.
