I was dating a girl and it was a long distance relationship. We did a novena together and asked for a particular sign to either continue a the relationship or break up. We did a novena and the girl I was dating asked for a red and white roses if we were to continue the relationship. She lives back east and was visiting me and on the day before she left when we went to my parents home there was white roses on the table and then after dinner I gave her a red rose rosary. I did not know that what what she was asking for as a sign to continue the relationship untill a few days later. I did not give her the white roses but they were there and I never even noticed them but the girl that I was dating did.

She felt at the time it was a signed to continue but then after she got home someone told her that asking for a sign is a bad thing because you might read into things. I also asked for a sign but my sign was for her to tell me good bye if it was not meant to be which she did some weeks later but it was long after we got done with the 9 day novena which we kind of expected to get it before she left for home. Which she did get her sign that she asked for at the end of the 9 day novena or so she thought even though I never gave her the white roses. My sister inlaw said sometimes God will give you the sign and it does not have to come from the person as you might think your going to get it from.

Since we were unsure about reading into the sign we the novena again but neither of us got a sign either way that time.

My question is was it good to ask for a sign or is this a bad thing.
