**The Bible doesn’t really say, one should hate his life! On the contrary; a long life is granted to many who serve God, see 2Mose 20,12: “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long…”
The word “hate” in John 12,25 means:
Those who set eternal live first, keep in mind, that we are here on probation for heaven.
Such we might live in great joy, for we know; if we live in God and love each other and love God, we will have eternal live in Gods kingdom.
Those however who are silly enough to think this life here is all, as they do not believe in God, consequently favor this life to the life in Gods kingdom, will of course loose their life; both live, for they love earthly life as a only one they have.
When the evangelist John says: “who loves his life will lose it; who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life” then this doesn’t mean we should HATE our life! How could we hate our life God has given to us?!
We can make this life pleasing in the sight of God and others, and we can make this life dreadful to others and ourselves and to Gods disgrace.
But when it comes to an end, glorious the fruits of our life will be before God if we lived in God and minded the but two commandments in Mk 12,29-31 Jesus announced:
“The first is this: The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
The second is: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”
When we do this, we might love our life here on earth and fully enjoy it, for it’s a great gift of God, for it leads us into eternal life with God.
This is the joy we savor in our life as Christians; as described in the CAF-thread:
