I think I am getting what everybody is saying. Tell me if I am off.

So, what is being said is that:
  1. Homosexual thoughts are NOT a sin, but the homosexual ACT is.
  2. We should not say it is immoral for someone to be homosexual
  3. It is discrimination to say that homosexuality is immoral.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Everyone seems to be playing verbal gymnastics.

What do you mean by homosexual thoughts? If a man’s thoughts are about having sex with another man that is immoral and a sin, just as a man having thoughts about having sex with a woman other than his wife.
Dwelling on such thoughts are a grave sin.

Homosexuality (only to the extent of same sex attraction) is disordered but not a sin.
Homosexuality (to the extent of no sexual relationships but having same sex lustful thoughts) is a grave sin.
Homosexuality (to the extent of having same sex sexual relationships) is gravely disordered and a grave sin.

  1. Correct. We are all tempted, and temptation is not a sin. Acting on temptation is.
  2. Correct - if we are talking about the person. We cannot say a particular person is immoral, but we can say that certain acts are immoral.
  3. Correct - but that’s not a bad thing! 🙂 To discriminate means to distinguish - or choose - between. Discrimination is not a bad thing. Discriminating unjustly is a bad thing.
For example, two people apply for the same job. One person is qualified and experienced, the other isn’t. The employer discriminates and hires the qualified person. This is legitimate. Another example, two people apply for the same job. One is hired because of their appearance. This is unjust discrimination.

All people should be respected and treated fairly. After all, we are called to love one another.

(If you go to a shop and an effeminate worker tries to help you, you would be acting unjustly to refuse their help on the basis of their effemininity.)

Yes I agree totally… for a Christian there is no other way.

But… let’s try to find the positive side: for a catholic with homosexual tendency such a situation may become a wonderful opportunity to be chaste and pure like an angel, living in his/her soul rather than in the body, and accept with patience and christian endurance his/her situation. Seen from this point of view it my even become a blessing!:angel1:

Interesting point of view.

Could it not simply be a yearning for spiritual friendship that has generally been corrupted by the pervasive hedonism of modern society? When it is a truly Catholic setting like the Middle Ages the attractions seemed to have resulted in spiritual friendship, where they absolutely loved one another and would truly sacrifice everything for another, for example [Amis and Amiloun](Amis and Amiloun). We have the real life case of Sir John Clanvowe and Sir William Neville where their love so tightly bound them together that when one did the other pretty much died of a broken heart and losing the will to live, indeed on their tomb we can see impaled heraldry which is only ever done for husband and wife and of course sworn brothers. Indeed the vows were taken as very serious business considering they thought that it persevered beyond death, yes love even deeper than that formed between a husband and wife.
