Is it insulting to refer to God as "herself"?

God revealed himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Nowhere did he reveal himself as “she” so to refer to him in that way is not only insulting but blaphemous. While attributes of God, such as holy Wisdom and Breath of God are through the rules of grammar sometimes rendered in feminine mode, that is not the same as revelation of God as “she.” Those who deliberately misread and misinterpret scripture in order to derive such attribution in order to pursue a political or social agenda are in error.
 
there are certainly aspects of God that anthropomorphically speaking are feminine, even motherly.

However it is true that God has revealed Himself in the Person of Jesus Christ, a man, and well God the Father seems to be associated with the masculine position. I ddon’t know if the Church has a specific teaching on this but personally I find it uncomfortable and probaly out of the realm of orthodoxy to call God “she.”

a) In referring to almighty God or the individual persons of the Most Holy Trinity, the truth of tradition as well as the established gender usage of each respective language are to be maintained.

Yes, for His nature is that of Creator, He is the giver of the gift of creation. So by His nature He is male for the male is the giver of the gift and the female is the reciever of the gift. That is why it says “Blessed be the woman and blessed be the fruit of her womb”.
