Is it just me, or are funeral Masses different (more powerful)?

i love funeral Masses and go to them as often as possible, even if i don’t know the deceased…

One time i went to the funeral Mass of a woman who was a mother to a priest… didn’t know anyone there… but had this most amazing experience… hard to describe… words seem so inadequate…

Anyway, i have heard that those in Purgatory attend their own funerals…

I know this is true… because one time a good friend of mine died and at the funeral, i felt she was sitting beside me… I mean, it wasn’t just in my mind… I really felt, strongly, that she was THERE with me… 🙂

… more powerful to you or one mass is more powerful than other mass?

Good for you, because if you are there to “comfort the sorrowful” is a Spiritual Work of Mercy, while to “bury the dead” and and to “pray for the living and the dead” is a Corporal Work of Mercy.

(did I get that right???)

But you don’t go to the wake, do you, or attend the graveside services (including the Mass – that’s the three parts of a Catholic funeral)? I think that should be reserved for those who are closer to the deceased.

Funeral Masses are quite powerful as we recognize our own mortality and join it to that of Christ’s human death - “in the hope of rising again.” Additionally, the Eucharist at this time seems ot have more of a celebratory factor to it, even during and through the period of mourning.

As the physical.mental sacrifices of the deceased on this earth are finished; we pray they’re not in Hell, we pray that their possible time in Purgatory is swift, and we pray that they are able to behold the Beatific Vision.

Death, in this sense, gives up hope…

Reminds me of old novels and movies of monks and nuns who aren’t allowed to display much sad emotion at the death of one of their order for the reasons I listed above.
