Is it justified (just war doctrine) to send in troops to help combat isis? Isis is not directly affecting the United States as a whole, but because of what they are doing to all those innocent people over there, can we justly send our troops to war there? To help save those innocent people?

I think it is absolutely justified, and necessary, to combat ISIS.

On his airplane coming back from his Korean visit, in an interview, Pope Francis himself said that stopping ISIS is a just war. The only point I disagree with him on is that he feels the military action should come from the UN as a whole rather than any one nation such as the USA. We all know how worthless the UN is and that nothing will happen through them. He is slightly naive on that one point.

The UN aren’t even allowed to shoot at all are they?

Maybe he is hoping and praying and encouraging the UN to act like it is supposed to… what it was intended to do from the beginning… let us pray…

Pope Francis said it is justified to do whatever it takes to stop ISIS but it should not be one country only but an alliance of countries.

Strictly just war does not apply here, as ISIS is not in any way a legitimate political authority. This would fall under suppressing insurgency, and it is thus licit as long as the Iraqi government does not object. However, aiding the other insurgents in Syria (the FSA) to fight ISIS, is immoral.

That said, I don’t think we should be involved, the Iranians are more than capable of handling it.
