What if I don’t believe in the modern medicine (as I don’t) ? Why should I be forced to buy their ‘service’ if I’m totally against it. I don’t ever intend to go to any doctor because I don’t think they can help. They are a bunch charlatans and frauds in white coats. Why was this not ever an issue for the Catholic bishops ? This is just a legalized robbery designed to steal money from people like me who would otherwise never pay them. I thought stealing was a mortal sin.

Even if you never go to a doctor in your life, you’re going to need end-of-life services at the end of the road, and someone’s got to pay for that. Even if you have no children, you probably have someone you’d rather leave your money to, rather than blow your life’s savings on your final hospital stay. By having insurance, it means you can leave your hard-earned money to the people you think should have it. 🙂

Because they are not a bunch of charlatans and frauds. If you want to talk and behave like a lunatic, then that is your perogative. If you truly believe that the federal government cannot force you to purchase a commercial product simply because you exist, then that is where you should focus your efforts. Your current argument will get you nowhere in the debate, and it is a morally bankrupt insult that you’re directing at every medical profession.

In my view (and in the view of growing number of people who have eyes to see) most of them are arrogant charlatans and frauds when it comes to curing just about ANY desease. The reality proves this point. All they ever do is write prescriptions for poisons produced by the corrupt pharma cartel. They never cure anything they just treat symptoms. This is the real reason why they had to pass this bill. Given enough time most people would see them for what they are and quit paying them and their house of cards would collapse.

You’re forced to pay taxes for countless other things that you may or may not be against. Such as wars, bailouts for banks, subsidies for businesses, welfare, and many things you may never use.

If this is stealing, so are taxes.🤷

I can’t answer the question in thread title, but it is certainly stupid to make a law about it, since the reason many people don’t buy health insurance is that the insurance companies won’t sell it at any price because of preexisting conditions or results of physical exam. Nothing in any language I have seen changes this state of affairs.

it would have made more sense to do what they did when auto insurance became mandatory, set up state pools where each company operating in the state had to sell a certain number of basic policiies to motorists with bad records, and the burden was shared among all providers.

This is ridiclulous. Any person with eyes to see knows that this illegitimate gov’t of special interests cares nothing about what I (or anybody else) believes or wants. People of this country made it very clear that they didn’t want this bill and they still passed it. This is truly no different then having devils run this country and I mean this literally.

Yes, I think all unjust taxes (which most of them clearly are) are stealing and should be condemned as such. It always amazes me that the issue of unjust taxes is never discussed in any church and this is really one of the main things that’s destroying this country.

What exactly is a just tax? By your logic, if forcing people to buy healthcare is wrong, why would forcing people to pay for anything be okay?

There you go again, blasting an entire industry because you don’t see what you want to see, instead of looking at how we got where we are. The mandate is the illegal part, so I’ll say it again, change your argument of you really want to do something about it. I was at the protest on Capitol Hill last Saturday. What have you done?

Pharma cartel? Do you even want to be taken seriously? You don’t even know what you’re complaining about. I work for the DEA. You don’t want to have this conversation with me. :onpatrol:

OK, tax to build roads is just in my view.

A tax to fund public schools system whose only purpose is to brainwashd young people and turn them into corrupt liberals who are against everything that’s of God is unjust.

A tax to fund child protective services whose only purpose is to lie and fabricate child abuse in order to break up good families and steal their kids is unjust.

I could go on like this for the whole day.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul is an old tactic of authority. This is just the latest example. The fact that so many support it is indicative of how the public’s view of ideals like liberty and free will has become corrupt. Just 20 years ago, people would have laughed at you for suggesting that cameras be on every street corner in the city. Now it’s commonplace, and the sheep love the “safety” they provide.

It’s an old story and it doesn’t end well.

Yes, it is immoral to make people buy health care insurance.

Funny how I’m alive today because of one of those arrogan charlatans.

Now there you have a point. 👍
What if someone doesn’t use roads and doesn’t want to pay for them? Should they be forced to?
Well, everyone uses roads either directly or indirectly. Does that person receive mail? Need a road to get there. Live in a house? Takes roads to get the materials and labor there to have built it. Eat food from the store? Trucks need roads to bring food to the food store, etc. etc.

To address the question in the OP, no, it is not moral in the way it is being done.

If tax money is used, as is currently is, to fund health care for those who genuinely cannot afford it, and it is used efficiently, as it currently is not, then is is moral to tax reasonably for such purposes. However, making someone purchase health care in the manner in which they have done is immoral.

There is always the argument that, in order to drive a car you have to purchase insurance. True, one does. But if you choose to not drive a car they will not make you do so. If you are simply living, you will need to purchase health insurance, and please, please, nobody buy the bull-ony that Business should shoulder that burden.

Any privately owned business will pass the cost of insuring their own employees on to the consumers in the form of increased prices for goods and services. As well, employees would make take home more money if their employers didn’t pay for their health care.

In the end, we all end up paying; the wealthy and middle class in the form of our cash, and the poor in terms of becoming totally dependant on the government for everything i.e. enslavement, by any other name.

I any case, to the OP, regardless of the reason why you do not wish to purchase health insurance, you shouldn’t be forced to under penalty of fines.

The morality depends on the implementation of the “force” part. For example, in the new US health care system, there is no real compulsion to buy health care, only incentives. So if you choose not to purchase health care, you are fined (read: taxed) accordingly. This represents a weak form of compulsion and it would be hard to argue this is immoral.

Say that the US required a person to have health insurance or be arrested. This is somewhat stronger, but someone adamantly opposed to having insurance could still freely leave the country. This is a borderline scenario. I think we only cross into immorality when there is no option but to purchase health insurance.

They must be pretty idiotic frauds and charlatans, those doctors. Spending 10+ years in training, working 80+ hours a week in residency. There’s a heck of a lot of easier ways to make money.

I see a lot of people who take your approach in my ambulance. They tend to regret it.🤷

What will happen to me if I refuse to pay the above mentioned unjust fine ? Eventually I will get arrested, right ? So no matter how you look at it it’s immoral.

You have engaged in circular reasoning. The fine is not unjust because you say so. The fine represents the burden you place on the society by not playing by the rules. There will be people who do not buy health insurance. Most, if not all, of those people will eventually require lifesaving treatment. Some, if not all, of those seeking treatment will be unable to pay, and (obviously) will not have insurance. The fine insures that the government doesn’t lose money by having to reimburse the hospitals for these people’s lifesaving treatment.

Show me how I place burden on the society ? I think it’s the other way around, they are placing burden on me by stealing my money…

Now you are being willfully ignorant. The reason the US needed health care reform is that health care for people without insurance has always been subsidized by the rest of society. The problem was that all the uninsured were acting as individuals rather than as a collective entity (read: they don’t get a group discount.) When you have chosen not to get health insurance you have essentially chosen to cost more if you need subsidies.
