Our house is very large with many family members & we employ several live-in maids & drivers to run the daily household chores. Recently we hired 2 muslim men as live-in maids & we don’t have any suspicion that they have special relationship other than that they are good friends as they told us.

After working several days in my house, our other live-in workers took notice of the strange behavior of these 2 men that they strongly suspect they are gay couple. I don’t want to confront them about this because I am already convinced that they are gay couple who live inside my house along with our other workers and my family.

Event though they are good workers but I feel very disturbed knowing that they must be sexually active gay couple. They share one bedroom together in the living quarter for the workers on the 3rd floor.

They are so many people looking for work so for us, it’s very easy to get their replacement but it’s hard for them to find work that can give them free room & board.

Is it morally wrong to employ live-in sexually active gay couple inside our house?
Is it better to fire them than to let them work & engage in very sinful activity inside our house?
What is best for my soul & the spiritual welfare of my family?
What is your best advice for this situation?
Thanks

would you let an unmarried man and woman share a bed under your roof?

How do you know for sure they are gay? In some cultures, same-sex signs of affection are normal and do not imply homosexuality.

They don’t socially interact with other workers and they like to stay close together when not working.

Even if my suspicion turns to be false later, I have followed my conscience to do the right thing.

You are possibly bearing false witness, which is not only the wrong thing to do but against the Commandments.

They don’t mingle socially? Why should.they, they are there to do a job not socialise. They stick.with.each other? Well, if everyone else is as suspicious of them as you seem to.be, with as little reason as you have given here, why would.they be inclined to be sociable or stick with others?

Can’t you just tell them they can’t share a room?
Yeah, whats with making them share a room with one bed? Can’t a person have their own room? Why do you need so many house staff if you can’t afford to house them respectfully?

Are you sure you’re not making this story up?

I am not making this up. This is in Jakarta, Indonesia and even the rich family from Indonesia will not be able to afford a single live-in house staff in the US or Europe because the salary standard is incomparable.

Anyway it’s very common for the big house to have several live-in house staff. Some of the biggest houses around my area, even have more than a dozen house staff and the workers share one bedroom with 2 or 3 people.

It may sound overcrowded but my workers are provided with decent living quarter on the 3rd floor and it’s has enough for space for 5 - 6 workers (3 bedrooms).

Bearing false witness? OK, this is very troubling for me.
If my judgment is based on an honest suspicion about something, and I follow my conscience when I fire them, how logically I can bear false witness deliberately?

Sorry for my ignorance on certain parts but I just want to do the right thing.
Please enlighten me. Thanks

I think you are under no obligation to employ people whose behaviour is scandalising both you and your other household help.

x2

And even if this is not possible, surely you have two single beds or something? I can’t imagine you hired them to share a room with one double bed in it?
Even if they don’t share the room, they will find a way to do their stuff together in the bathroom, for example.
If they do and they are caught out on it or something, than I believe that would be just grounds for firing them. Is there some sort of contract they had to sign or be made aware of which would make them aware that there is no sexual activity allowed on the premises or something? Because it’s my understanding that it’s not a rental property or hotel room set up, but rather work related accommodation provided by the employer.

p.s. I would also be very careful about assumptions. You know what they say when you assume. 😉

Anyway, just some of my thoughts on the matter, feel free to disregard it if it doesn’t help you.

If you don’t like it change it.
What does your priest say?
It seems like you’ve already worked out the answer fir yourself. Next , have ground rules when you hire.
🤷

I believe If your honest suspicion that you act on turns out to be false or not entirely true.

I don’t think your ignorant, I just think your in a bit of a tough situation. It might also help you to check out a forum that covers the legal side of things regarding your employee accommodation set up and what options you have open to you.

I hope this has helped

  1. How do you know they’re Muslim? Are they Sikh? Are they Hindu? Have you asked them? (Which would be violation of EEOC, but if you’re truly concerned about it…) The two guys in that TV show “Bonanza” slept in the same room, too. They could be brothers like the cowboys in “Bonanza” – do they have the same last name?
  2. What proof do you have they’re committing sinful behavior?
I do think you could be bearing false witness here. 🤷

EEOC in Indonesia?

Anyway, it could be a matter of the other employees of OTHER cultures not being comfortable with these two men because of their faith.

One would have to sort that out. Nevertheless, I doubt if people in the U.S. could really offer advice on their employment status.

Is it moral? Depends on the terms of their employment.

This is a matter for a local priest to tackle with the OP.

How do we know they’re Muslim? Because they “look” like it, or is there something to substantiate it?

The OP said they were.
Read the entire thread.
Second sentence of the first post - “Recently we hired 2 muslim men as live-in maids”

To reiterate what the obvious, we know they’re Muslim…how, exactly?

I did read the entire thread. Nobody (except for me) has asked the OP about how to know they’re Muslim. Is there a message where it’s addressed?
