Is it morally wrong to support, or at least to not oppose gay marriage as far as the state is concerned? If so, why would that be morally wrong?

Hi,

One of the greatest fallacies in our current culture is the upholding of political correctness which emphasizes concern for people’s feelings over the concern for truth.

Truth is the shortest distance from that which is…… and one’s acknowledgement of it. With regard to so-called gay marriage we have a fallacy. The covenant between a man and a woman made at the altar and consummated in the marital bed is completed with the conception and birth of their child. To say that members of the same sex who commit to a life-long union are doing the same thing is simply not true. The physical complementarity between a man and a woman does not exist between members of the same sex. To call the latter ‘marriage’ is to destroy its meaning. What we have always called marriage would no longer have a word that describes it.

But more importantly for Catholics, to engage in genital activity with one to whom one is not married (in the traditional sense) is a mortal sin. TO ENCOURGAGE OTHERS TO DO SO IS ALSO A MORTAL SIN. This is equally true for all who are not married regardless of their sexual orientation.

I realize that there are many for whom these words are painful to read. There are also many heterosexual people who may not marry for a number of reasons. There are many who cannot hear or see. We all have limitations. We can see them as stumbling blocks or stepping stones. It’s up to us to choose. But the good Lord has shown us the way on Good Friday. The seeming meaninglessness of that day and His death is the only meaning we have. The more we understand Good Friday, the more we understand our own lives with all their limitations. Our individual crosses are our opportunities to love Him back. And HE is so worth it.
