We live in a rapidly changing world in which people are forced to conform to rapidly changing social ideals which have become abnormal. To what degree are we dazed and confused, living in a temporarily chaotic world filled with anxiety and deception?

The title is rather odd in that the word “normal” can be interpreted to mean “typical.” Is it ‘typical’ to be ‘typical’ in today’s world.

I am reminded of a story I once read – a man was passing an insane asylum, as they were called in that day, and he stopped to chat through the fence with one of the inmates. The inmate asked him, “Do you know why I am in here and you are out there?”

The passerby answered, “No, I don’t.”

“Because there are more of you than there are of me.”

I recall someone once asking a psychologist why all their texts refer to Abnormal Psychology; aren’t there any normal humans. He replied that he didn’t know, but if they find one they will cure him. 😃

I am told that the only normal people are those we do not know well enough. 🙂

I fail to see just how we are FORCED to comply with what is presented to us as the new normal.

As best I can, I live by what I think are solid standards. I meet many people who do not think or act as I do in all kinds of situations. No worries. I let them be and eventually I find those I can be around without feeling like I have to always compromise my standards.

I pay attention to my wife, the woman I love and have solid reasons to trust. I pay attention to my employer because I owe them my best efforts using the methods they pay me to use. As long as it is not illegal or immoral, that generally is OK.

And I pay attention to my Catholic Faith, which by definiton, is certainly not illegal or immoral.

I see all kinds of behavior - some of it OK, just not me, and some of it certainly not me at all. I never feel like I am forced to go along with the current “everybody does it so it must be normal and I need to do it too or there is somethng wrong with me.”

:sad_yes:, and if you do not adapt (aka. sin) you would be criticized.
