My parish has only one time for reconcilliation on Saturday two hours before the 5p.m. Mass, is this normal ?

Ours has a few set times through the week for confession, but we are always invited to call and make an appointment if we can’t make the set confession times. (ours is 2 hours prior to 5 pm mass, and I believe two mornings a week after morning mass)

That’s fine. Some churches have confessions DURING mass, though not specifically prohibited, I would not allow it as IF I was a priest and PASTOR. BUT< Either before Mass, or after mass, AND on SATURDAY: two hours sholud be the norm. Using the official confessional WITH SCREEN.

One of our local parishes offers confession at every Mass, which is great!

My last confession was during Mass (first I’d ever seen this), and I asked the Priest if it was acceptable and if I should stay and participate in the rest of the Mass. He said it was fine, so I did.

God Bless,

Robert.

I belong to a Latin Mass Parish staffed by the FSSP. We have Confessions 15 minutes before all daily masses and 30 minutes before all masses on Sunday. In addition we also have Confessions from 4:30pm until 5:30pm on Saturdays.

There is also a small Benedictine Monastery near me which has confessions Tuesday-Saturday 3pm - 5pm. The monastery always has a line for confessions mainly because of the reputation of its priests for giving excellent confessions.

This however is the exception and not the rule. Most parishes only offer an hour of confessions per week, and usually no one goes to confession at these parishes anyways. Some parishes are even scaling back what limited confessions they do have to only 30 minutes on Saturdays.

Our confessional is so busy on Saturday night they will continue with confessions up until the consecration. They have 2 priests, until about 20 mins before mass, then one priest continues. Our confessional is very private, so it does not interfere with the mass at all.

I know I’ve mentioned this before in another post, but the parish I attend has cofessions by appointment only, and then you only have the choice to go “face to face”. The nearest confessional “box” is 20 minutes away. Thankfully I live only an hour away from the Chapel of the Divine Mercy. Daily confessions 30 minutes before each Mass.

In His peace!

I think it sounds normal. You can always run to a different parish for Reconciliation if it fits your schedule. I had to do that.

My old parish actually had nothing scheduled as times for confession - it was all by appointment. It was very apparent that there just were no sinners to be found at that church. Kids made their initial sacrament, then never again. Seems the general absolution service was all they needed.

I think we stayed there at the parish a bit too long before the Holy Spirit urged us to move along.
