Is it O.K. for a catholic to listen to linkin park?

I know that linkin park are not a christian band and that two of the people are jewish (not the writers of songs though), but i dont know about the other guys.
Their songs aren’t demonic or anything against God (that I know of) and some of their songs contain a Christian-ish meaning, but their songs seem to be a little dark mainly because some of them contain the realities of death (I guess there’s nothing wrong with that)
I really like some of their music and have 6 of their songs.
And plus for a literature project for 7th grade in my Catholic school we had to use a song and explain its meaning and find other literature stuff in it (like metaphors, ect.) and we used “In the End” by Linkin Park
So should I stop listening to them, or is it o.k.?
A lot of the people from my catholic school (probably like 90% of my class) listens to them.
 
Most things don’t fall neatly into “should a Catholic do this” or “should a Catholic not do that,” just as they don’t fall neatly into “sins” on the one hand and “non-sins” in the other.

With all proper pastimes and pleasures, even music, the Church urges moderation.
 
I would say it’s okay to listen to Lincoln Park i don’t like them but as long as it’s praising Satan or denouncing God i’d say your good and like the previous poster said everything in moderation

So speaking only generally: anything that is not sacred or close to it, but instead worldly, one should only indulge in, in a small way and not become a big afficianado of. Because it’ll be sprinkled with stuff you don’t want in your mind and soul more or less.

With such things one would, treat it detachedly, or ignore it. If it doesn’t lead you to God, it is leading you in the opposite direction unless you oppose it with the right disposition.

And that said, much of modern popular music nowadays is moral garbage. All it does it provoke angst, romanticism and passion, and letting go of restraints. Becoming, as we often do become whatever we hear, any of these emotions is destructive to the spiritual life and often sinful.

Take care, you who are listening to this. Flee the destructive places and ways of sin. Govern your sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch, your food, drink and sleep, that you may keep from being overwhelmed by the tempest of the passions. This is worth remembering: someone who sails across the physical sea is subject to storms and tempests without their wanting it, while someone who crosses the water of the mind is lord of tempest and of calm. linkin park is watered down garbage. they use the same formula for all of their songs. there are so many good bands out there, and trust me, they are not on the radio.
 
Music can also be a good coping mechanism. Circumventing anger, depression, stress, even if it is sinful, through music is much better that releasing it in the material and physically validated form. Ultimately it has to be suppressed or eliminated somehow. Church hymns work for some people better than others.
 
What do you consider a good band? I’m looking for music for my CCD class, level 6.
So far I hve discovered Fr Fortuna, what else is out there for them? Of course it has to be within restraints, oh yea!

I used Linkin Park to work out to while I was in Seminary. I like that their first 2 CDs didn’t have any curse words on them, and it disappointed me to see that their last one did. I say if you dig em, rock on, there are a lot of worse bands you could be listening to.
 
No it is not ok for you to listen to Linkin Park, because their music is no good, it is a poor attempt at Heavy Metal and it all sounds the same.

Ha ha ha, sorry! On a serious note, I consider myself to be a praticing Catholic - no doubt a sinner- but my musical tastes are not the cause of my sin. My IPOD contains anything from Gregorian Chant, Traditional/Republican Irish Music, classical, rock, and Heavy Metal.

My favorite bands are MetallicA, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Anthrax and others along those lines. Most of the ‘devil worship’ wrongfully associated with Heavy Metal, is solely commercial in nature. I find Christian Music (outside of classical hymns pre-vat ii) to be garbage, boring, whiny, and funny (for all the wrong reasons).

This is off topic, and I’m sorry, but would you really classify LP as heavy metal? No doubt the bands you listed are really great, but would you even try to put Linkin Park in the same category as them?

I was only joking about the music in general. I was only trying to illustrate the point that personal music does not matter. When it comes to Holy Mass no one is more than me is more supportive of traditional hymns and musical compositions.

Bingo. Not everything is black and white.

With as many fans as Linkin Park has, I’m sure some of them are Catholic.
