Hi,

Is it ok for a Catholic to enroll to a Protestant university. I know its ok for a Catholic to enroll in a secular university as long as they use proper prudence.

I was wondering if the same thing applied to going to a Protestant school. Would it be wrong since the school is for a lack of a better term…heretical…and my tuition would be supporting the institution?

Many non-Catholic colleges and universities have Newman Centers that have Mass and activities for Catholic students. These are usually run by either the local diocese or a religious order. Therefore it seems that the Church is accepting of Catholics who choose to attend these institutions. Obviously prudence does apply. I would not recommend attending a fundamentalist university that is diametrically opposed to Catholicism. But many mainstream Protestant colleges and universities have excellent programs in law, science, literature, etc. As long as the individual was attending for the purpose of a non-theological specialty I don’t see the problem.
