Is it ok for a priest to be an athiest?

I enjoy helping people, I enjoy using religon to make them forget about their problems and ease the reality of death. I see religion as a way to teach people morals and kindness. I really enjoy being nice to people. Everyone has a hobby, my hobby is college, I have a bachelors in computer science, an associate in nursing, a certificate in accounting, and I am currently in graduate school to be a teacher, and still I don’t know what I want to do with my life. I thought about law school, however the more I have been thinking about it for some odd reason I am obssesed with the idea of being a priest.

I would love to be a missionary and help some of these poor people in Africa.

I am sure I wouldn’t be the first priest who questioned God’s existance; in reality there are many athiest priests.

Dang, I can’t believe this even got posted…YEA, IT SEEMS LIKE A REALLY GOOD IDEA FOR AN ATHEIST TO BECOME A PRIEST…WHY NOT …I AM FATHER " DON’T BELIEVE"… COME FOLLOW ME AND WE CAN ESTABLISH THE IDIOT’S CHURCH OF THOSE THAT DON’T BELIEVE IN GOD. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE.
 
If you want to be a priest and you are an Atheist then I would suggest first converting your mind and soul to Catholicism and then pursuing the priesthood.
 
I wouldn’t go to a confession with a priest who is an atheist. I wouldn’t go to a mass peformed by an atheist priest. I wouldn’t go to an atheist priest to bless my rosary or crucifix. I think we get the picture.

Humanity does not need another liar.
Christ is Truth and Truth is is the first criteria together with Love, for a servant of Christ. There is no lies in Him. That is why we trust Him. if you would become a priest you would greatly undermine and blaspheme the Church, the Lord and the people whom you were set to minister.

Let me ask you something: why dont you go into a hospital and take on a white coat and pretend to be a doctor? The world needs good doctors who want to do good. But you would find it absurd, no? Because you dont know anything about medicine etc… Why do you think you can be a spiritual doctor if you have never ever had a taste of the Living Water of Christ, never felt doubt in belief…belief in doubt, never prayed ardently and rejoiced at the answer… never felt led by God or gone through the trials of a faithful, contemplated the HOLYness of Christ and KNOWN it was real…
Face it man. You dont know what it is to be a Christian… and you will never know until He deigns to show you inside… until then you would be an empty shell doing superficial motions…

😦 Do you think I am offended at you for even contemplating leading me and millions of others astray with deceit? You bet I am.

Please note that the poster you are referring to has been banned and this thread was started in October 2006.
 
When new members resurrect years-old threads started by member who have been banned, I wonder who they really are.
