My husband and I are involved with the youth in our parish. We are deciding on a day for the youth group to meet for this year. Sunday afternoon was one of the options. Is this an appropriate day or would that be a problem because it is a day of rest and we would be “working”; granted that it is for the spiritual growth of the youth?

There is nothing inappropriate about a youth group meeting on Sunday. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) teaches that the faithful are to rest from "servile labor” and those works and activities which could impede sanctification of the day (cf. CCC 2042).

Code of Canon Law (CIC) explains that the faithful “are to abstain from those works and affairs which hinder the worship to be rendered to God, the joy proper to the Lord’s day, or the suitable relaxation of mind and body” (CIC 1247). I think a youth group meeting would facilitate rather than hinder the desired worship, joy, and relaxation.
