I like the flag from the American civil war that shows a snake with the caption " don’t tread on me" I see the flag as a symbol of how the British saw the colonists even though they just wanted representation in the government.

Is this a sin? Or is it bad?

PS: I miswrote that it was from the US civil war when it was a part of the revolutionary war

I don’t think is a sin to like it but if you drive in NYC displaying it on your car plate you will be probably instantly labeled as red neck…

‘Don’t tread on me’ is a flag from the Revolutionary War, not the Civil War, so I doubt that anyone would think much more than that you are a history buff - providing you actually learn some history first!

It’s fine to like it. You probably don’t want to hang a big one from your window or drive around with it flying from a flag holder on your truck though.

There’s also a fun Metallica song called Don’t Tread on Me.

The Gadsden Flag is increasingly associated with domestic terrorism and white hate groups or militia groups that like to use the flag.

Why would you think this is a sin? I’m confused as to why this would even occur to you.
Because of its recent negative associations with militia groups and supremacist groups.

It’s similar to liking the Confederate flag because you’re a Civil War re-enactor or a fan of Dukes of Hazzard or Lynyrd Skynyrd. Or iking Pepe the Frog because he was just a silly cartoon about a frog who said “Feels bad, man”.

There are a lot of reasons people like certain flags and symbols, but when they get associated with something bad then we can’t use them publicly any more, which to me is unfair and a shame, but it is what it is.

I’d be careful lumping in all militia groups with white supremacists groups.

I myself look at it like the word comrade. Just because it’s associated with communism doesn’t make it a bad word. Same with the flag.

Yeah I like it as a symbol of American resistance but the snake on it makes me worry it is sinful

This is true enough, but it can’t be allowed to continue. People can’t just surrender every symbol or word to the forces who would co-opt them. Where would such things stop? Things are already well underway to discredit the national anthem. We should give that up, too?

As already stated it is from the American Revolution, not the civil war…not sure why you would even worry it is a sin.

Interestingly enough, in this currently political divided nation, I could see both sides of the political spectrum of ideology using it as a symbol of their cause.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for Us!

That’s all academic. If a person displays the Gadsden Flag they are going to be associated with these groups and it will attract attention. Giving advice to the contrary is a possible safety concern for the OP, at least depending on what area he lives in.

For the original question: nobody is a mind-reader and only the OP knows what his intentions are. Nobody else does. So I don’t know if it’s a sin or not, I’m just saying that the flag is associated with domestic terrorism and hate groups.

If that’s the reason you were thinking it was sinful, the get some spiritual counseling from your priest. This line of thinking is pretty skewed, and you need some help discerning what actual sin is versus just completely mundane things.

I didn’t even know this flag was associated with fringe groups. I’m pretty checked out, apparently.

I doubt that the National Anthem is going away. As for Confederate flags and the like, the re-enactors will continue to use them. One day tensions will also die down and American history will return to being history.
