Is it ok if I like the " Don't tread on me flag"?

Thank you very much for clarifying. By the way don’t mean it sarcastically thank you

I mean religiously not political

I don’t mean this to become a large political debate about racism

I travel a lot of places where it’s fairly common to see a Don’t Tread on Me flag, a Confederate flag, or someone openly carrying. Unless the person is giving me some reason to worry beyond that, like he’s acting psycho or just came charging into the Walmart with his gun drawn, I am not bothered by his flags or his having a visible gun. Leave him alone and he’ll generally leave you alone, but there’s no reason to be going into avoidance mode.

Well, with the number of armed people in Virginia (where I am a member of the state bar for 20 years and used to work there) you’re not going to eliminate all road rage threats by avoiding the Gadsden license plates. Same for all the other surrounding states which have comparable numbers of such threats and no Gadsden plates.

Anyway, I said my piece, I’m out. I’m not scared of Gadsden flags or guns, I’m scared of people who act psycho, and simply having a flag or a gun doesn’t mean they’re automatically scary to me. I’ve known a lot of decent people who had one or both.

This is me realizing I just started a big political debate over a simple question whether a snake on a flag was bad not even a question about race

As do I.

I know it doesn’t come as a shock that sometimes posters use a little rhetorical flourish now and again.

I had the same reaction. Is that flag sinful? Heck no. Would displaying it mark yourself as some sort of terrorist or sympathizer? No. Maybe a conservative or a states’ rights person, but not some sort of domestic terrorist.

Snakes are part of God’s creation. They are not any more evil than your neighbors puppy.

In the book of Exodus, God orders Moses to make a brass serpent and put it on a pole, so that those who were bitten by the saraph serpents would be healed when they looked upon it. If snake symbols were inherently evil, God wouldn’t have ordered that one be made.

Also, Eastern Catholic and Orthodox bishops carry a staff with snakes on top of it. Again, not evil.

Okay? I like the confederate flag, which apparently makes me a racist bigot (I promise, I am neither), is that okay for people to call me that just because of that fact? No, it isn’t. You can like or dislike which ever flag you please. I think the state of West Virginia is beautiful, but it has a hideous flag. (Cool motto, though)

The flag and the message behind it are solid. It has a legacy going back to the founding of the United States. The rattlesnake is an excellent symbol from a moral perspective. It gives a fair warning before acting in defense of itself.

Than you to both the people above but I meant religiously not political

I too like the Confederate Flag, the POW Flag, the Texas Flag, the USA Flag, and ALL flags that are associated with all the states and countries! What I don’t like is some people demanding that we the people should NOT fly a particular flag because it is a part of history! Yes, it is ok to like the flag of your choice! It is your “free will”! 🇺🇸 :australia: :burundi: :canada: :united_arab_emirates: :bahamas: :uk: :british_indian_ocean_territory: :iceland: :iran: :greece: :greenland:

Yeah why don’t we try to ban the USSR flag because Stalin killed millions of people. They would go nuts, but then they see us having the Confederate flag saying that should be a hate crime

Nothing sinful about taking pride in your country or it’s just founding.

Your response was needlessly uncharitable. You can correct someone without insinuating they aren’t trying to learn history.

Nothing wrong with liking this flag. It’s a flag that I associate with having pride in someone’s own country.

It doesn’t have to be associated with negative connotations any more than the American flag does. Our country is what we make of it.

Alright for all the posters I didn’t mean it politically, I may be a strong conservative but I’m not racist. I originally just wanted a simple answer on according to genesis the snake was evil but I like the flag so I wondered whether the snake made the flag sinful. Yet I have been reassured that it isn’t

Now I wrote American civil war by accident Instead of revolutionary war. I watch a lot of stuff from the civil war, so you can see why I messed up. And I didn’t realize until hours later.

Just to clear the. Confusion
