Hello I have couple of questions. I heard a few years ago that we should not buy Fords because they supports gays. Does Ford still say that? Also is it ok to buy used Fords?

I ask because I normally prefer Ford trucks (to me they are the most reliable). But I havent gotten one because of what they supported. What about other ones like Chevy, nissan or honda?

a) The Church has no such teaching
b) People may choose to voluntarily boycott businesses that they have issues with for whatever reason-- such as their philanthropy division giving to objectionable causes. If one does so, one should contact the corporation and let them know why they are choosing an alternate business to support.
c) If you want to boycott a business, do your homework and really study the company. Don’t go by “what you heard”.
Does Ford still say that?
Perhaps that is a good question for Ford. Go to their website and see what you can find.

It is ‘ok’ to buy a new or a used Ford.

Do your homework on those automakers and see what you find out.

I really wish businesses would stay out of politics. It would make things so much easier. Some of their employees are Christians, Catholics, or members of other groups that do not support same-sex unions. Christian-owned companies have non-Christian employees who do support same-sex unions.

I do not have a problem if the companies want to donate to hurricane relief or community programs to help the hungry/homeless/ill or anything like that. But political causes that a lot of employees disagree with doesn’t seem right because it labels the entire company a certain way.

How would the Ford Motor Company benefit financially from buying a used vehicle from another party?

I think there’s a decent argument in that higher resale demand increases demand for new vehicles, but IMHO you’d have to be REALLY upset with a company to worry about that sort of thing.

Coming from a long line of GM employees, I’ m not sure buying a F ord is a sin, but my relatives might claim it is, at the very least, a crime!

Ugh, where to start?

Far from being a sin, it is a virtue to “support gays” if by that you mean the human beings who are attracted to others of the same sex. If you meant to say “support the gay lifestyle” or “endorse same sex eroticism” please say that instead. The horrible mistake nominal Christians made for a long time was to conflate people with actions and reject both. On the basis of those past sins by nominal Christians society today is largely rejecting Christian teaching about homosexuality on the mistaken notion that “Christians hate gays.” Don’t do that. There is no moral failure in having a same sex attraction. There is also no sin in people of same sex sharing Agape or Filia types of love. Only Eros has no moral outlet between people of the same sex. Please be more careful how you talk.

Even if Ford is guilty of supporting such a cultural revolution, your decision to buy a new one on the basis of you judging it to be the best value is not sinful. At worst, it’s remote material cooperation with evil, which typically isn’t sinful. It can be heroically virtuous to go to great lengths to avoid it, but it isn’t a basic moral requirement. Add in the USED nature where Ford doesn’t even make any money on the transaction and you get into the realm of the scrupulous (IMO).

Don’t worry about it. Every dollar bill you’ll ever hold was at sometime involved in something sinful. You can’t drive yourself nuts worrying about everything.

If you buy a used ford, the only place the money is going is in the wallet of the previous owner thats selling it to you

Well, if someone found proof a particular company DID actively support something immoral or highly sinful,or if they even admitted it, then I would expect that the church suggest parishioners boycott that company and not to give them any business, and not just on a local church level, but probably get to more people if done by religious region.

We all know there are plenty of large popular companies that like to make it known they support abortion, gay rights, and lots of other immoral things, so I find it strange the church does not EVER suggest boycotting. How can that even be possible?

But on the other hand, when a company speaks out against immoral things, the chic-filet issue over the summer comes to mind, when they spoke out against gay rights, the liberals went crazy, calling for boycotts of that company, legal action and all kinds of crazy stuff, so how can the church remain totally silent on companies that openly support abortion, womens right to choose, gay rights, etc? Seems a bit one sided to me.

Personally, If I hear of a company that has views that I disagree with, I will go out of my way to make sure I dont contribute to them or patronize their company. I think this is the right thing to do.

Thanks for the advice. I did some research. all I found was that ford gave there employees and families the same benefits (health insurance ect) no matter their life style. Frankly I don’t really think Ford is saying that agree with the life style just that they wont discriminate. Do yall?
