Is it ok to date someone who was conceived through IVF?

As a Roman Catholic, is it acceptable to date and marry someone who is Catholic, but was conceived through In Vitro Fertilization. I believe that it is okay, since that person has been born and made in the image and likeness of God.

I understand why the Church doesn’t accept In Vitro Fertilization, because it is not a natural way of conception and its not practicing a full trust in God. However, I know that the person that is conceived due to in vitro fertilization is just as human and deserves the same rights to life and dignity as any one who was conceived naturally.

Lastly, if some one is to get married to some one who was artificially conceived and have children, what is the best way to tell the children that their parent was artificially conceived when the Catholic Church doesn’t accept that practice as morally acceptable? I could see it as being a sticky question to answer.

1. Yes, it is ok to date someone who was conceived through IVF, the same as it would be to date someone who had been born to unwed parents or someone who had been given up for adoption for various reasons. We are, as you pointed out, made in the image and likeness of God from the moment of our conception.
2. I don’t see why the subject would ever really come up with your children. I don’t ever recall hearing about a child who asked such a question to their parents about their conception. However, a human life can come into the world in a variety of immoral means. Just because a situation produces a human life doesn’t make it automatically a good situation. God can bring good out of any situation but that doesn’t mean its moral to do anything.
