Hey all.

I was wondering . been reading the scriptures and I know Lord Jesus said he created man and a woman and want us to have kids familes.

I am new catholic and lately I am realizing I cannot love(a woman) anymore I have friends i care about but i been torched many times.

So i decided to give up on it … all family business live alone focus on faith job hobbies and my dogs.

I know Jesus is love and all he wants us to be happy loved and being able to love. I just cannot love or trust anyone(in partner concept anymore.

After trying to see people I realized maybe I can live life alone with things makes me happy.

kinda confused cos I know family is part of catholisim .

Any advice?

Have you at least tried to discern your vocation? Maybe you’re called to be celibate?

Personally, before I even tried to discern my vocation, I wanted to be a nun. But then grandma taught me that I can’t be one if it’s not my vocation. Then mom explained what a vocation is. And so I changed my mind to stay virgin until I die. But, years later, God called me to the married life. I was just a college student and He let me know through some courses I took back then. I didn’t like the idea of it, but I closed my eyes and said “ok, I will open my heart from now on…may it be done according to thy will…”.

Family holds a special place and purpose in Catholic life. As does being a single celibate person. You don’t have to overthink it. 🙂

Just as not everyone is called to be a priest, not everyone is called to marriage. Though it may seem counter to the current culture, people can have a fulfilling life as single people. You need to take time and listen to God - what is He calling you to be? Right now it may be a single person, later it might be married. He might be calling you to the diaconate, life as a monk, or a priest. Discernment on one’s vocation in life is not something that is “instantaneous” for most people. Discernment is a process - prayer, self reflection, learning, seeking other people’s (name removed by moderator)ut and advice.

I will caution you, if you don’t feel like you can love a woman because of past treatment by one or several particular women you might not want to consider a vocation like the diaconate. A deacon is formed as Christ the servant - an expression of the love of Christ to the world through service to His people at the altar, proclaiming the word, and most of all through charity. The charity part takes many forms, but many times it requires you to ignore the person’s past behavior toward you and others and love them anyway.

Remember, time has a way of healing wounds. There may be scars and other remaining effects, but healing will happen if you let it. Do not discount the possibility that there is someone out there who is a future spouse for you, but also don’t consider it a given.

You might benefit from having a spiritual adviser if your don’t already have one. If you are interested in one, ask your pastor for recommendations.

Peace,

Deacon Patrick

You don’t owe it to anyone to get married and have children. Many people have obtained holiness and served God and humanity beautifully in the single life.

For peace of mind, I would recommend working with a counselor or priest on healing the past
and letting go of past relationship hurts.
Be gentle with yourself. God will reveal His will to you in due time. I admire your quest to serve God. God bless you. Be at peace.

You’ll never know what tomorrow brings. Take it one day at a time and spend all of it walking with God, always being aware of His presence.

Being single till further notice keeps all your options permanently open.

Serving God’s people informally rather than informally keeps all your options permanently open.

I started a private prayer meeting at my home and a friend started a private Bible study. We don’t need clergy permission for that. It is hospitable to lonely people.

Also constructive hobbies are fulfilling. I am planning to write on certain subjects to expand others’ minds. That is a vital work of mercy too.

The married life and the various forms of the single celibate life are both pathways to holiness; the key is to discern which one you are called to.

BUT we are all called to give up our life in selfless love and service to another, whether that be to our spouse or to Christ alone (and His Church). We are not made to live for ourselves and for our own happiness. If a person renounces marriage, it should be for the purpose of being able to devote himself more fully and wholly to God’s service, not so that he can pursue his own hobbies and happiness.

If you feel you are called to marriage, though, don’t give it up just because you have been burned a few times. Take a break from dating if you need to, but be open to love again. 🙂
