Is it ok to go to this exhibit?

Near my house there is a museum with a display of dead bodies, showing their muscles, organs, etc… I am very interisted in things like that and I was wondering If it is ok to check it out. I am not sure because I dont know if we are supposed to be buried in a certian way; if we are, then these exhibits probably don’t follow these rules. I think there are rules in the old testament about burial and I’m not sure if we are to still follow these rules???

Uh,… the question is whether the bodies are given the dignity they deserve as human bodies.

If so, then it’s most likely OK to gain knowledge from those who have given their bodies for the edification of others, if that is in fact what they done.

Just my opinion, of course. You might want to have your local Priest make a ruling on this one, just to be sure.

Keikiolu’s right on here, from my un-theistic point of view.

Human dignity is the key here, by which I mean how these people wanted their mortal remains used. In this case, if the edification of others was the good they wished in life, that is greatly laudable. If you have scruples, perhaps checking into the exhibitees’ wishes might be in order, but if that isn’t possible, think of how much you may learn from the experience, and decide where the greater benefit lies.

Is this the Body Exhibition that was in NY for a while? I really wanted to go to that. Several friends of mine went and thought it was amazing and that it gave much more insight into how the human body functions in relation to all its parts. My friend said she had never seen anything so facinating and educational in all her life. I say, go learn, be amazed…these people donated their bodies to science, this is a scientific exibition.

Here is a link for anyone who is not familiar with this: www.bodiestheexhibition.com. It is absolutely amazing–I went several times and took my 3 kids. It’s hard to describe the insight and awe that this exhibit inspires for the marvel and miracle that is the human body!

Is this Body Worlds? If it is, the bodies used are donated specifically to be used for that purpose by the people when they were alive. The purpose of the technique used by the doctor who puts on the display is to help preserve the bodies better in their natural state so they can be studied and last longer than the other preservation methods. They’re basically donating their bodies for a type of medical research. That was here about a year ago and I missed it. I really wanted to go. One of the local TV stations did a special program about the doctor and what the purpose of the display was.

This exhibition was strongly condemend by our Archdiocese becuase the lack of dignity shwon to the human body .
