Is it ok to laugh at some humor that does not seem to intend to make fun of Jesus and the Church (as it is; abuses excluded)?

I’m thinking about an old Madtv show skit where the Terminator comes back in time to kill Judas before he can betray Jesus or the “Buddy Jesus” statue from Dogma (a silly statue that sums up the abuses in the Catholic Church since Vatican 2 times, and I think was intended to make that point as I think many Catholic atheists are hurt idealists without traditionalist leanings).

What about a picture of Jesus hanging on to dear life from a cross that is attached to the rearview mirror of a speeder. My dad sent that knowing I am devout and I can tend to drive too quickly. Is that still using not his name, but likeness, in vain, even though not intending to be blasphemous?

Did the guy who made “chocolate Jesus” intend to be blasphemous, like a mockery of eating his body, or something?

Thanks!

is the intent of the creator of the joke or chocolate as important as how YOU recieve it?

Two people can listen to one amusing story and get two different reasons for it being funny. and in this case I would be of the opinion that your personal reaction and what you deem to be the comedic element determines whether or not blasphemy affects you.

BTW, Jesus hanging from the cross cause your driving to fast can have some interesting meanings to do with the pace of live these days. its a stretch . . . . but it always gets a laugh!

I think that if the creator of the joke had a blasphemous intention then we should not watch or enjoy it.

What’s acceptable now on tv would probably not be acceptable at all say 50 years ago. I have watched stuff that I shouldnt have, but I know its wrong. I even feel it inside me.
